Finding the right course is one of the most crucial part to a students
life. Deciding what course you will take in collage can change your life
significantly, from a persons job to the people around them, to their life style
and environment, hence, it may even affect their whole personality. So
having a clear goal and things that you want will be noteworthy when it
comes picking one’s course. The problem will occur when someone is not
ready yet or do not know what they want in life, this type of person will be
more likely experience job mismatched and worse unemployment. Having a
clear choice in life, guidance of people around you and guide from school will
consequentially lead you to the right path of prosperity.

Career decision-making is a crucial aspect for senior secondary school

students, as it shapes their future trajectories (Singh & Jagdev, 2018). Proper
career guidance and counseling programs can enable students to make more
informed and better decisions regarding their career paths. Additionally, the
integration of career planning education into high school curricula has been
found to have a significant impact on students’ career determination and
subject choices.

According to the study of Shen (2021), students with clear career

goals tend to take more relevant electives and select subjects based on their
interests, planned studies, or desired future careers, leading to greater
motivation and improved learning approaches. Existing research suggests
that school offerings, such as career education classes and counseling
services, can have a substantial impact on the career exit choices of senior
high school students.

By providing students with access to information, resources, and

guidance on various career paths, schools can help them make more
informed decisions about their future. (Shen, 2021) For instance, students
who lack exposure to career education are more likely to be uncertain about
their futures and lack clear career goals, which can lead to mismatches
between their interests, abilities, and the courses they select.

One of the main problem of our country is when certain organization

conducted a research, it shows how significantly high the numbers of people
who currently has a mismatched job or even unemployed. The drop out rate
in our country said by The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) from
2023 to 2024 is about 35.15%, though it is lower compared to our previous
year where it is 40.98% , nevertheless, this is not something that you can
ignore. Base on the research of Samuel John Parreño from Sapienza Group
Editorial Brazil, it sad that The Philippine government must implement
programs that would address the dropout crisis with an aim of decreasing the
proportion of the root causes of dropping out (employment or looking for
work, family income not sufficient to send children to school, high cost of
education, and lack of personal interest). He said the one of the root causes
is being uninterested in the course of what they are currently taking.

The main purpose of this research is to help students understand how

their chosen strands correlates in senior high school will significantly affect
their career choices in college, this aims to provide clear view as to the effect
of the mismatched strands to their preferred course in college. By knowing
the impact of strand that they will take and what courses they might pick
that corresponds in their future strand they can research more about future
courses that they might encounter and can have a background information
to it so that the students now have expectation and can be more prepared.

Statement of the problem

1. What are the different strands offering in Barcelonita Fisheries School?

2. What are the chosen college courses of senior highs school students in
Barcelonita Fisheries School ?
 3. What is the significance difference in their chosen strand in senior
high school to their preferred programs in college?

4. What are the effects of the chosen strands of senior high school to
their preferred courses in college

Objective

1. To identify different strands offering in Barcelonita Fisheries School

2. To determine the chosen college courses of senior high school students

in Barcelonita Fisheries School

3. To evaluate the significance difference in their chosen strand in senior

high school to their preferred programs in college

4. To know the effects of the chosen strands of senior high school to their
preferred courses in college

Scope and delamination

This study focuses on the impact of chosen strands of Barcelonita Fisheries

School students to their career choices in college. Furthermore, this study
will focus on the grade 12 senior high school students for 2024 to 2025
talking General Academic Strand (GAS), Bread and Pastry Production (BPP),
Computer System Servicing (CSS) and Shielded Metal Arc Wielding (SMAW).

The research will not include perspective of college students, junior high
school students and other students that are not from Barcelonita Fisheries
School as it is only limited to the grade 12 senior high school students. This
also will not discuss the economy status of the students in choosing their
strands.

Significance of the stufy

The results of this study will beneficial to the following entities;

Parents. This will help parents to know what course their child can take so
that they can prepare for it

Student. This research aims to understand what students can gain from the
course. It will also help students determine if their chosen strand is a good fit
for the course content.

Future researcher. The choice of a course can significantly shape the

success of a future researcher’s journey, shaping their knowledge, skills,
research direction, and career prospects. By carefully considering their
interests, the course curriculum, faculty expertise, and networking
opportunities, future researchers can position themselves for success and
achieve their research goals.

School .This research will provide valuable insights into student preferences
for specific courses. This information can help the school identify areas
where new strands or courses might be needed to meet student demand.”

Definition of terms
Career choices. refer to the deliberate and informed decisions individuals
make regarding their future professional paths. This encompasses the
selection of a specific field of study, occupation, or industry based on
personal interests, skills, values, and aspirations.

In this study, “career choices” is a central concept that examines the

relationship between chosen strands in senior high school and the
subsequent career decisions made by students at the College of Barcelonita
Fisheries School.

Senior high school students. refers to a student in the final year of high
school. This is usually the 12th grade in the United States, but it can vary
depending on the country or educational system. Senior high school students
are typically preparing for college or other post-secondary education. They
often take advanced courses in their chosen fields of study and may
participate in extracurricular activities to enhance their college applications.
The term “senior” in this context signifies the highest grade level in high
school, signifying the culmination of their secondary education.

In this study, “Senior high school students” are the primary respondents in
this study. They are the focus of the research, as their chosen strands in
senior high school are being investigated for their impact on their career
choices. By focusing on this specific group, the study can gain insights into
how the senior high school experience influences the career aspirations of
students at the College of Barcelonita Fisheries School.

Course. refers to a specific subject or program of study offered by an

educational institution, like a college or university. It encompasses a
structured curriculum, learning objectives, and assessments designed to
impart knowledge and skills in a particular field.

In this study, “course” is important because it helps to connect the senior

high school experience to the career choices of students at the College of
Barcelonita Fisheries School.

College. refers to an institution of higher education that offers

undergraduate and sometimes graduate degrees. It provides a structured
environment for students to pursue advanced studies in various academic
disciplines, preparing them for future careers or further research.

In this study, “college” refers to the College of Barcelonita Fisheries School.

The research focuses on the career choices of students who are attending or
plan to attend this specific college. This helps to understand how their high
school choices might prepare them for the specific programs and careers
offered at that institution.

General Academic Strand. caters students who are not yet sure of what
course or degree they want to take in college. This strand was designed so
that indecisive learners can proceed with any college program.

In this study, the researcher will quire a data to the General Academic Strand
(GAS) students.

The Bread and Pastry Production (BPP) . It is a strand that has a

significant influence on students’ skills and interests[1]. Students who exhibit
high levels of grit and interest in BPP tend to demonstrate good skills in
preparation, production of baked products, and maintenance of tools and
equipment.

In this study, the researcher will quire a data to the Bread and Pastry
Production (BPP) students.

Computer Systems Servicing (CSS). as one of the specializations of this

strand. Here, the students are expected to install and configure computer
systems, set-up computer networks and servers and to maintain and repair
computer systems and networks.

In this study, the researcher will quire a data to the Computer Systems
Servicing (CSS) students.

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). It is also known as manual metal

arc welding (MMA or MMAW), flux shielded arc welding or informally as stick
welding, is a manual arc welding process that uses a consumable electrode
covered with a flux to lay the weld.

welding (SMAW) students.
