Lesson Plan: St.

Patrick’s Day

1. Warm-up (10 min) – “Green Brainstorm”

Objective: Activate prior knowledge and introduce the theme.

1. Write "St. Patrick’s Day" on the board and draw a big shamrock.
2. Ask students: What do you know about this celebration? (Encourage them to
say words, traditions, or symbols).
3. Show images of a leprechaun, a pot of gold, a rainbow, shamrocks, and
Ireland’s flag. Ask them to guess their connection with the day.
4. Quick challenge: Name as many green things as possible in 30 seconds!

2. Presentation (15 min) – “The Legend of St. Patrick”

Objective: Learn about the history of St. Patrick’s Day through reading/listening.

1. Show a short animated video about St. Patrick’s story (e.g., YouTube: History of St.
Patrick’s Day for Kids).
2. Give students a short text about St. Patrick (simplified for A2, more detailed for
B1).
3. Ask comprehension questions:
o Where was St. Patrick from?
o Why is he important in Ireland?
o What symbols are related to St. Patrick’s Day?

3. Practice (15 min) – “Leprechaun’s Challenge”

Objective: Practice vocabulary and speaking skills through a fun challenge.

1. Divide students into small groups.

2. Each group picks a mystery card with a St. Patrick’s Day symbol (e.g., gold,
rainbow, shamrock).
3. They must describe it without saying the word while the others guess.
4. Extra challenge for B1: Make a short story using that symbol.

4. Production (15 min) – Writing Task: "My Lucky Day"

Objective: Develop creative writing skills.

1. Students write a short story about a lucky day they had, real or fictional.
2. Prompts to guide them:
o What happened?
o Why was it lucky?
o How did you feel?
3. Pair students and have them read each other’s stories. They give one positive
comment and one suggestion.
4. B1 students: Include past simple & past continuous.

5. Wrap-up (5 min) – “Irish Quiz”

Objective: Reinforce learning with a fun game.

1. Quick true or false quiz about St. Patrick’s Day (e.g., The national color of Ireland is
blue. - FALSE!).
2. Students raise a green card for TRUE and a red card for FALSE.
3. Give small prizes (stickers, chocolate coins) for correct answers.
