Essay
TV is a source of information, learning and exposure especially for young audiences who are
easily influenced and thus, it has a large role in the spiking of violence lately. Criminals are often
glorified in media, painting their image as genius masterminds carrying out all these terrifying
and horrendous tasks. For example, the American serial killer Ted Bundy was portrayed as
conventionally attractive and charming which led to him having many admirers. The people
witnessing such cases notice the fame tied to these criminals and envy the popularity.
Moreover, TV shows have concerning amounts of uncensored gore, killing and violence making
the audience desensitized. What was once disgusting has become the norm. Consequently,
violence in real life doesn’t faze anyone either. Additionally, there are TV shows based on
famous criminals which show their life and how they plan and carry out their crimes. These
crimes are well-developed storylines which may lead to the audience being inspired. Those who
desire violence but are inexperienced or unaware become informed.
