C. Analysis
1. Do you have any ideas for today’s topic?
2. Do you recognize the activity that we have?
3. What can you say about the activity?
D. Discussions/Abstraction
Let us recall the terms use in subtraction.

1) 489 minuend
- 158 subtrahend
331 difference

In subtracting bigger numbers, it is easier to arrange the

minuend and subtrahend in column. Pay attention to the
place values.

How do we solve 234-123?

Subtract the ones 4 and 3, then subtract the tens 3 and 2
and subtract the hundreds 2 and 1.

Hundreds Tens Ones

2 3 4
- - -
_1_ _2_ _3_
1 1 1

Therefore, 234-123= 111

234
- 123
111

Another example is 8915-4714. Subtract the ones 5 and 4, next is tens 1

and 1 then hundreds 9 and 7 and lastly subtract thousands 8 and 4.
Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones

8 9 1 5
- - - -
4 7 1 4
4 2 0 1

Therefore, 8915-4714= 4201

8915
- 4714
4201

E. Generalization
How do we subtract numbers without regroupings?
How do we write the numeral when subtracting?
Where do we start subtracting?
Why do you think subtracting is very important?
Remember:
In subtracting 3 digit numbers from 4 digit numbers, the
digits must be aligned according to their place value. Then,
subtract the ones first, then the tens, the hundreds and the
thousands.

F. Application
Instructions: Subtract the numbers I’m going to show you.

1) 537 2) 489 3) 642 4) 783

- 315 - 158 - 132 - 241

5) 857 6) 2476 7) 2879 8) 3884

- 315 - 1324 - 1524 - 2134

9) 3976 10) 9752

- 2635 - 8421
IV. Evaluation

A. Solve the-three digit subtraction problems below.

B. Solve the-four digit subtraction problems below

V. Assignment
Instruction: Do as indicated.
1. What is the difference between the largest 4-digit number
without repetition and the smallest 3 digit number without
repetition?
2. What is the difference between the largest 4-digit number
with repetition and the smallest 3-digit number without
repetition?
3. What is the difference between the largest 4-digit number
