Database: Benefits of Database 2
Organizing large amount of data without using technology is so stressful. As
time goes by, software was created to organized and collect information and
data; it was namely Database management system. Those collected and
organized data are called Database. Database is important and beneficial when
collecting and organizing data. These days, although technology evolved,
Database is still being used.
Databases are created by different types of database software. There are
types of database software such as Oracle, Mongo DB, SQL server, etc. MySQL
is the most used and popular database software. Margaret Rouse (2013) said
that MySQL often associated with web-based applications and online publishing.
It is an open source relational database management system. EverSQL Team
(2017) stated that in survey results from Stack Overflow, MySQL is the most
popular database software with the average of 44.3% out of 36,935.
Databases can store organized information and data. As Christensson
(2009) pointed out that multiple tables are contained by most databases which
include several different fields. For example, in a company database, they
include tables not only for products and financial records but also the employees
(Christensson, 2009). By inputting, storing, retrieving and managing information,
Database can organize and capture large quantities of data (Herzing College,
2014). Data are stored in electronic records to easily searched, retrieve and

organized in countless ways. Instead of having your information in a paper or
spread sheets, it is better to have it a Database.
Database is very helpful especially in business. When it comes in accessing
database, multiple users can access it at the same time. Database are used to
manipulate and updating data. Accessing data especially in a large business it is
beneficial because all of the employees can access it at the same time (as cited
in Chapman, 2017). Database can save time, in a paper-based filling system; it
will take several minutes in digging the data. Retrieving a single record can be
done with just a few clicks in a computerized database. According to Chapman
(2017) using a database is typically faster rather than excel or some other spread
sheet software.
All in all, this information proves that database is so beneficial especially to
us programmers. As an ICT student, I learned that in creating a system you are
not just typing the codes to run it. You can run your system but it is not organize.
Database will be so much relief for us programmers to organize the data and
information that we will input in our system. To other ICT student, I know they
used spreadsheets to organized data but, using database is much easier than
that. For those who are not programmers, I believe that once they read about
the database and know how database will help them, they will patronize it
especially if they have a business either it is small or large. Database is
beneficial not only for programmers but also for not programmers. Although they

are not programmers, I know they can manage to use database software for
creating database. I truly believe that in the future, database will still being use
even though technologies evolve.
