connotes a goal that a pupil
must have. It is described as

TRUE.

The highest part of the learning experiences leads

the learner to exhibit the skills and the truth learned in
the lessons. Real-life experiences and service to others
are tailored in this step.

The learner is guided to a deeper understanding of the concepts learned. In this part
of learning, the pupils are led to integrate the learning experiences to the core values
of the school and to other subjects across the curriculum. The reflective part of the
lesson is done here which will connect the pupil to the true source of wisdom which is
God.

In this step, the pupil is brought to the true content of the lesson. Lesson
discussion, interactive questions and assessment evidences for the enabling
competencies are aligned here.

This is the first part of the pupils’ learning journey of knowing the truth. Devotional that will lead
the pupil to seek God’s guidance is the first step. The second part is the introduction of the learning
competencies. Furthermore, motivation is given which will link to the next part of the learning.

Second Quarter Week 1

Module 1. Understanding Decimals

Tune In

This week you will be learning about the place value of decimals, how to read
and write decimals, and to round decimals to a designated place value.

Learning decimal numbers is very important since we use it in our daily life. At
your young age, you need to appreciate that in knowing decimal numbers you could
extend help to your parents especially being responsible in buying.

Closer to God:

In this module, one of the lessons to learn is giving a value of a digit. Relating
this to our relationship with God, each of us has a great value in the sight of the Lord.
He sent Jesus, His Son, to die for me and you. In fact in 1 John 3:1, God says that He
loved us so much that He claimed us as His sons and daughters. What a wonderful
privilege to be called as children of the King.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for this time of learning. I pray for
wisdom as I start to study this module. Please send a Helper to
help me discover your love from my Math lessons. Thank you for
answering my prayer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Most Essential Learning Competency: By the end of
the week, you will be able to apply your knowledge of the place value of
decimals, skills in reading and writing decimals and rounding decimals
in mathematical problems and real-life situations.

Performance Task: By the end of the week, you will be able to apply your
knowledge of the place value of decimals, skills in reading and writing
decimals and rounding decimals in real-life situations.

Enabling Competencies: By the end of the week, you will be able to;
1. give the place value of and a value of a digit of a given decimal through
ten thousandths
2. read and write decimal numbers through ten thousandths
3. round decimal numbers to the nearest hundredth and thousandth
4. apply knowledge of the place value of decimals, skills in reading and
writing decimals and rounding decimals in mathematical problems and real-life
situations.

Faith to Live by:

In the word decimal, “deci” means tenth. This term reminds us of tithe. A tenth of our
income to be brought in the storehouse of God that there will be food in His house.
Malachi 3:10

Giving our tithe must be with a heart, for God loves a cheerful giver. What
promise was given to them that return their tithes in Malachi 3:10?

The Lord will bountifully bless those who are faithful that there shall not be
room enough to receive it.

Identifying the Place Value of Decimals

Decimal- another way of expressing a fraction whose denominator is a power of 10.

A decimal point separates the whole number part of the decimal from the fraction
part. The decimal point (.) locates where the units position is.

hundreds tens ones Decimal tenths hundredths thousandths Ten

point thousandths

4 9 0 . 7 0 4 2

Each digit has a place value according to its decimal place. For example, 7 is in first
decimal place, its place value is tenths while its value is 7 tenths (0.7). Zero is in
second decimal place, hundredths is its place value. So, the order of place values of
decimals are tenths, hundredths, thousandths, ten thousandths and so on…

Self - Check:

A. Direction: Write on the blank the place value of the digit 7 in each decimal numbers.
1. 0.17 = _____________________________ 3. 0.1847 = _______________________
2. 0.783 = ____________________________ 4. 0.9178 = _______________________

2. 0. 2089 = __________ 5. 12.84 = ____________
3. 4.6782 = ___________

Faith to Live by:

Romans 8:35 says “Nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God”. If we
are in Him we are one in Him in Christ Jesus our Lord. But we cannot serve the
Lord in sin, for sin separates us from the Lord. Let the glory of the Lord be in you
always.

Reading and Writing Decimals through Ten Thousandths

How do you read and write decimal numbers?

Example: 0.5 - The 0 in 0.5 holds the ones place value for whole numbers and the
dot after 0 is the decimal point. Read a decimal like the fraction it names.
Say five-tenths because 0.5 = 5/10.

Another example. How will you read whole numbers and decimal amounts?

When reading whole numbers and decimal amounts as 2.56, first read the whole
number “two” and then the decimal point by saying “and”. Next, read the decimal
amount like how you read whole numbers say “fifty-six” and name the place value
of the rightmost digit, say, “hundredths”.

So, 2.56 is read as “two and fifty-six hundredths.

How about 52.781?

(fifty-two and seven hundred eighty-one thousandths)

Self - Check:

A. Direction: Read and write the decimal numbers in standard form.

1. nineteen hundredths - _______________
2. three and eighty-six thousandths - _______________________
3. sixty-one and fourteen ten thousandths - ________________________

5|P age
B. Direction: Write the following decimal in words.

1. 0.07 - ______________________________________________________________________
2. 12.652 - ____________________________________________________________________
3. 25.0039 - ______________________________________________________________________

Faith to Live by:

The principle of reading and writing: The Bible was written by 40 different authors,
men inspired by the Spirit of God. The Holy Writ was upon the guidance of the Lord
as it was published until today. This Book was written for a Holy purpose, to be read
by the present generation. Why do we need to read the Bible? I will give you one
answer. We read because we need to be ready to meet Jesus.

Rounding Decimals to the Nearest Hundredth and Thousandth

Rounding decimals is similar to rounding whole numbers.

Here are the rules in rounding decimals.

1. Locate the rounding digit

2. Locate the number indicator (at the right of the rounding digit)
3. Add one to the rounding digit if the number indicator is 5 or greater than 5
If the number indicator is 4 or less, the rounding number remains the same
4. Discard all the digits at the right of the rounding number.

Ex. Round to Hundredths

Ex. 1 Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4

Faith to Live by:

As I hear the word rounding, it helps me to imagine how Jesus, in His time, healed
sick people. Jesus made them whole again not only physically but most of all, He gave
the spiritual healing. He is the Way that will restore in us the lost image of God.
Without Him, we don’t have the assurance of eternal life. In Jesus Christ alone, the
rounding of our character is made clear. He is the Author and Finisher of our faith.

Faith to Live by:

King David said in Psalm 119:105, The Bible is a lamp and light to lighten the
path. He profess to give greater value of God’s word. How about you?

John 5:39 says, “Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal
life”. This means that the Bible is valuable when it comes to spiritual battle. It
contains heavenly instructions that will prepare us for eternal life.

It is an amazing truth, that God preserved His Word until today for it
profitable for doctrine, for reproof and for instruction in righteousness, that we will
be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
