Objective:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to describe someone's appearance using
basic adjectives and simple sentences.
Describing People’s Appearance

Describing people's appearance can be done in many different ways, depending on the
details you want to focus on. You can break it down into categories like physical
features, style, and body language.

When describing someone's appearance, we generally focus on a few key aspects:


1. Height

o Tall: He’s tall.

o Short: She’s short.

o Medium height: He’s of medium height.

2. Build/Body Type

o Slim: She’s slim.

o Chubby: He’s a bit chubby.

o Athletic: She’s athletic.


o Overweight: He’s overweight.

o Muscular: He’s muscular.

3. Hair

o Color:

▪ Blond(e): She has blonde hair.

▪ Brown: He has brown hair.

▪ Black: She has black hair.


▪ Red: He has red hair.

▪ Gray/White: She has gray hair.

▪ Colorful: She has blue hair.

o Length:
▪ Short: He has short hair.
▪ Medium-length: She has medium-length hair.

▪ Long: He has long hair.

o Texture:

▪ Straight: She has straight hair.

▪ Curly: He has curly hair.

▪ Wavy: She has wavy hair.

▪ Frizzy: His hair is frizzy.

4. Eyes

Example Sentences:

Tips for Practice:

• Start with a general description (e.g., "She is tall") and then add details (e.g.,
"She has long black hair and bright green eyes").

• Use comparison: "He’s taller than me," or "She’s as tall as my sister."

• Include the person's age if relevant (e.g., "She’s a young woman," or "He’s an
older man").

Sentence Structure

1. Basic sentence pattern:


[Subject] has [adjective] [body part].
o Example: "She has long hair."

o "He has blue eyes."

o "She is tall."

2. Use “is” for descriptions of height and build:

o Example: "He is tall." / "She is slim."
