MOVIE REACTION PAPER

The movie is sad and heartbreaking. I love the story, it is relatable for some people especially if they are a family type of
man. Yes I enjoyed the movie because it is short but full of meaning. I expected before watching the movie is that there
are siblings because I based on the cover.

The main plot of the movie is that there is a young man and younger sister. They are poor and their parents died from the
war. They are living with their auntie but they are not loved and cared so they did not live in her house for long. Soon they
learned that their dad died from the war and they found an abandoned cave and they live there. They have no food to eat
and their life became miserable after the boy’s sister died. She died because of eating rocks instead of food. The boy was
desperate to find food and money and he became a thief. Soon after the war, he eventually died after not eating for weeks
and their spirits remain in the fireflies that her sister adore. One thing that surprised me is that when the sister, Setsuko,
started eating rocks, mistaking it for candy. It related to my own life in a way that I care so much for my siblings that I
would follow them to the other life.

The character that stood out most to me is Seita because he is a good brother and a good character. There is character
development when Seita become much braver to get more food and stand up to himself and for his younger sister Setsuko.
He also stood up for his sister and himself to his aunt who is not treating them fair. I like Seita because he is such a caring
brother who always watch and protect his sister no matter what happens, even if there is war happening and its just the
two of them left.

The message that the movie convey is about hardness of life and also sacrifices you need to make for the person you love
and care for. Everything has it’s own price and it’s up to you to decide how to deal with it. There are no symbolisms or
motifs.

The movie’s cinematography is perfect. It is an old movie and the animation fits perfectly. I like the music that they
picked, it matches the story and characters situation. The music made everything feel more sad and there is more emotion
and color to the movie.

The movie shows how hard life is without money and power. Just like whats happening in reality, if you’re rich you have
more power. If you are poor, you get treated bad and there is no justice.

The movie is not too slow and not too fast. It is good because it makes it easy and clear to understand. This movie is one
of ghibli’s works and all of their movies is a masterpiece. Compared to my neighbor Totoro which is also one of Ghibli
movies, it is a very good movie.

The movie made me feel sad and heartbroken about what happened to the main characters. I also have siblings that’s why
I can relate to the story. The anime made me realize that living in poverty is hard and sometimes being happy is not
enough to survive.
