                                        LIKE PINOCCHIO
                                      By: Teresita P. Francisco
I kept on running… they were after me…No!! No!! I am not Pinocchio! I am
Gabriel/Gabrielle. My name is Gabriel/Gabrielle!! When they were about to catch me…
BAMMM ! ..Thank God it was just a dream.
I remember one day, I was in a hurry to go out to play with my friends. In my haste, I
accidentally knocked over my mother’s favorite vase. I just ignored it and I hurriedly rushed
out of the house. When I returned, mother asked me: “Gabriel/Gabrielle, did you happen to
break my vase earlier?” I said: “NO! I was out playing with my friends. Maybe it was the cat.”
The next day on my way to school, I saw a nice little toy car/doll. I wanted to buy it but
I didn’t have enough money. I thought maybe I could ask Mother for some. Upon arriving
home, I told my mother; “Mother, my teacher said we need to buy some materials for a
project to be done in school.” Mother asked; “How much do you need?” “I only need P100
for that.”
I was so excited to go to school the following day so I can buy the nice car/doll. I was
so proud of my little toy car/doll because my classmates said it’s cool. When I came home, I
saw my mother holding on to her wallet with gloomy eyes. I learned that she needed some
money for her medicine. The P100 I asked from her suddenly came to mind. If I didn’t lie to
get it, then Mother will not be short of money now. What will happen if she is really sick? What
will happen if she can’t buy the medicine she needs? I couldn’t sleep that night. I felt
sad…guilty… and regretful….
Morning came and I got out of bed with bleary eyes because of that dream. I
approached my Mother and confessed: “Mother, I am sorry. I won’t do it anymore. I won’t
lie to you and deceive you ever again. I know Jesus is not pleased with me. I will be good
from now on. I don’t want to be like Pinocchio. I only want to be your dear
Gabriel/Gabrielle.”
