Rumpelstiltskin
Hello everyone, my name is Thavanishaa. Today I would like to tell you
a wonderful story about Rumpelstiltskin. A long, long time ago, there
lived a poor miller who wanted to get rich. Without thinking much
about it, he went to the king and told him that his daughter could spin
straw into gold. When the king heard this, he gave an order to bring the
girl to the tower and lock her up in a room filled with lots of straw.
The miller’s girl was shocked at these events! She was locked all
alone in a room in the tower. She didn’t know how to turn straw into
gold. “This is how my life ends,” she thought to herself and started
crying.
Suddenly a funny looking old man appeared out of nowhere. “I
know about your plight, little girl! I can help you turn this straw into
gold, but you will have to give me your gold necklace in exchange”, he
said.
She agreed to the deal. The next day the king came in. He was surprised
at what he was seeing! But instead of freeing the girl, the King ordered
his men to give her more straw.
Again the girl started crying. She was stuck now, because neither
did she know how to turn straw into gold, nor could she reveal the
truth to the King.
The old man once appeared again and offered to help her. “This time,
you will have to give me your gold ring in exchange!” he demanded.
She agreed and gave her gold ring to the old man. By the morning,
straw had been turned to gold. Once again, the king was astonished by
the miller’s daughter’s talent. The king decided to give even more straw
this time. Not just that, the King promised to marry her and make her
Queen if she spins that straw into gold.
Night came and the old man appeared again. “I have nothing to
give you but I desperately need your help”, the girl said. “I will help you,
but on one condition,” the old man said. “Promise me that you will give
me your first child,” he declared. The girl had no choice. “Alright, I will
give you my first child”, she promised, without thinking about her
words.
he next morning, when the king entered the room he was amazed. It
was filled with so much gold again. As he had promised, they got
married and soon the queen gave birth to a child.
By now, the Queen had forgotten all about the promise she had
made to the funny old man. But he was not going to let her off that
easily. That night the he appeared again and asked for the queen’s
child. She got scared. She said, “I will give you anything you want. Name
it, gold, precious stones, land” she offered desperately.
“I have no interest in your gold. But I will let you keep your child if you
guess my name within three days”, the old man said. The Queen,
having no other choice, agreed. Two days passed and she kept listing
names but the old man kept saying “No” to all her guesses. The queen
decided to send a messenger to follow the old man.
The old man was sure that he had managed to win against the
queen. He was gloating and was filled with overconfidence. On the way,
he merrily sang to himself,
“Tonight, tonight, my plans I make
Tomorrow tomorrow, the baby I take.
The queen will never win the game
For Rumpelstiltskin is my name!”
The next day the funny old man returned to the palace and the
queen kept listing names, and the old man kept smirking, and saying
“No!”. He had believed that he won the challenge, but the queen finally
said, it’s Rumpelstiltskin!” The old man was shocked! He got very angry.
In a flash, he stamped his foot on the ground so hard that it made a big
hole, and he disappeared into it forever.
My dear beloved friends the moral value of this story is, “Always
tell the truth, and take responsibility of your actions”. If the miller’s
daughter had been truthful to the King, she would have never found
herself in this situation.
