Advanced Manufacturing Techniques

and Process Monitoring

………………………………………………………....................................................

Overview
The advancements in manufacturing sectors has revolutionized the way the products are designed,
fabricated and provided to the customers. This alchemy has led to the development of novel
materials, thus requiring a range of manufacturing process with varied capabilities. Another
significant aspect is the massive miniaturization of the devices, this requires the material
processing to happen at sub-micrometre scales, which has led to the development of highly precise
micro-machining techniques. The dynamics of material removal and other material processing
techniques varies with the processing techniques.

Automation also plays a crucial role in the advancement of the manufacturing industries. The
application of robotics and smart machines for material processing and handling has increased the
efficiency and precision while minimizing human error. Robots are highly accurate with repetitive
tasks, hence improving the productivity and reduces the manufacturing costs. With the
digitalization and improved sensing and connectivity, the concept of “smart factory” or “Industry
4.0” was introduced. This has resulted in the development of artificial intelligence and machine
learning algorithms which introduce intelligence in the automated systems making them smarter.
These innovations transform material processing, emphasizing the importance of understanding
process mechanics, parameters, and algorithms for future research opportunities.

The primary objectives of the course are

• To facilitate knowledge transfer by discussing the advances in manufacturing techniques.

• To understand the process mechanics of various advanced manufacturing techniques.
• To create a conducive environment for discussing the advanced manufacturing applications
in various research domains.
• To provide an opportunity to interact with the experts in the field of manufacturing.
• To understand the aspects of surface engineering and engineered surfaces.
• Hands-on training and lab visits for practical sessions.
• Live demonstration of the advanced manufacturing techniques.
Dates – 17 March 2025 to 21 March 2025
