R3 Devil's Tail
For a quick Halloween costume why not knit a Devil's Tail. Use a safety pin to attach it
to the inside waistband of any skirt or trousers and swish away.
You will need:
red yarn (double knit) • toy stuffing
4 x double ended knitting needles (3mm) • tapestry needle • scissors
Pattern (End Piece):
This pattern will use the abbreviation 3TOG. This Round 9: [kfb, k2, 3TOG, k1, kfb, k1] x2 (18)
means work 3 sts together using the following Round 10: [kfb, k6, kfb, k1] x2 (22)
method – sl1, k2tog, psso (see Notes for other Round 11: [kfb, k3, 3TOG, k2, kfb, k1] x2 (22)
abbreviations). Round 12: [kfb, k8, kfb, k1] x2 (26)
Round 13: [kfb, k4, 3TOG, k3, kfb, k1] x2 (26)
Cast on 2 stitches in red. Round 14: [kfb, k10, kfb, k1] x2 (30)
Round 15: [kfb, k5, 3TOG, k4, kfb, k1] x2 (30)
Row 1: kfbf x2 (6) Round 16: [kfb, k12, kfb, k1] x2 (34)
Round 17: [kfb, k6, 3TOG, k5, kfb, k1] x2 (34)
Separate the stitches onto several knitting Round 18: [kfb, k14, kfb, k1] x2 (38)
needles and continue in the round. Round 19: [kfb, k7, 3TOG, k6, kfb, k1] x2 (38)
Round 2: k– Add a small amount of stuffing into the top of the

Round 6: k– one needle and the last 19 are on another. Graft

Round 8: k– Stitch.
Pattern (Tail):
• Using red yarn cast on 3 stitches.
• Work 40 - 60cm i-cord.
• Cut yarn, thread through remaining stitches and pull tight.
Making Up:
Attach the end of the tail to the end piece and sew in any loose ends.

Notes:
Abbreviations
[ ] x number Repeat the section in square brackets the required number of times.
(number) Gives the total number of stitches you should have on needle by the end of the row.
k number Knit this number of stitches
k– Knit every stitch to the end of the row.
kfb Knit into the front and then the back of a single stitch (+1 stitch).
kfbf Knit into the front and the back and the front again of a single stitch (+2 stitches).
k2tog Knit the next two stitches together (-1 stitch).
psso Pass the slipped stitch over any intervening stitches and off the needle.
sl1 Slip the next stitch purl wise.
sts Stitches.
