DIED 86
Lessons learned
1. Always be careful, to stay in hot weather is
better than to kill some one
2. NO one without a valid driving license should
operate a car ( the worker who accidentally killed
the man did not have a deriving license

• Driving faster can lead to disaster
Speed! This topic is always repeated….
Why repeat? We all know that if you
drive fast you may end up in an
accident and the solution to this, is
to drive within the speed limits…
Now, do you agree that speed does not kill? It
moronic lack of thought that kills,
inattention that kills and disregard to
fellow human beings that kills but
not speed!! What do you think? 88

89
Is speed really dangerous?
The driver struck a pole while driving fast.
Visualise this. If the vehicle was
travelling at low speed and strikes
the pole, the driver faces
minimum damage and survives.
At high speed the damage is
catastrophic.
Remember speed increases the
stopping distance. If you drive too
fast,
you may not be able to stop in
time to avoid a crash. 90
Determine the appropriate speed
•Consider these factors…
Try maintaining the speed limit but if you
decide go a
little beyond, maintain situation awareness.
Constantly scan your mirrors and gauges. Try
not to
have your music too loud. This way you can
listen to
your vehicle as you drive.
Drive at moderate speed and use your
judgement
whilst driving in traffic. Driving too slow can
obstruct
traffic and driving too fast can increase the
chances of a serious accident. 91
Determine the appropriate speed
•Consider these factors…
Your speed should be based on visibility, traffic,
road
and weather conditions. If you have to get to a
destination
at a certain time, plan ahead and give yourself
time
to reach there without having to drive fast.
Check your tyres before you drive. Worn out
tyres
can lead to an accident, especially when
speeding.
Consider the speed of other vehicles. Adjust
your speed
so that you do not collide. Let them proceed if
92
they are on the same lane. It might be annoying
93
• AVOID LANE CHANGE /
MERGE ACCIDENTS … TURN
OUT YOUR SIDE MIRRORS TO
REDUCE
• BLIND ZONES
Good visibility is no accident
94
THERE ARE MORE THAN 600,000
LANE CHANGE/ MERGE
ACCIDENTS IN THE UNITED
STATES EACH YEAR.
• More than 200 people die each year in
these accidents.
60% of drivers causing the crash say
they didn’t see the other vehicle.
We don’t have statistics for
Middle East - but you see
what goes on every day. 95

FIVE GOOD REASONS TO
TURN OUT YOUR MIRRORS
you don’t need to look over your shoulder so often
(but it’s not a bad idea to do so)
you need only a brief glance at the mirror to view the
blind zone - at highway speeds, turning your head
means 30m travelled
glancing at the mirror leaves the forward scene in
your view
blind zones can be included in your visual scanning
(which we’re all doing, of course)
at night, no more glare from headlights into your
mirrors 99
GOOD VISIBILITY IS NO
ACCIDENT
It will take time to change your habits and to
get used to the new mirror position.
But stick with it and you will be rewarded
with a new view in driving that will improve
your safety and comfort.
