1. Panaji Market, Goa
• Panjim market, popularly known as “Panjim New Market,” is situated off Campal Road, next to INOX Multiplex, and is a
  blend of exotic and contemporary architecture.
• The Panaji Municipal market is a colourful structure with caricatures by Mario Miranda all over the walls. Most of the
  market’s fresh produce is stacked below, with electronics stores and tailors upstairs.
• It describes a successful market redevelopment scheme for the old market which was in a dialapilatted situation. Also
  there was a need for increasing number of shops, which leads to redevelopment.
• Now, the Market offers a spatial experience for the people in it’s open plaza model spaces, where Narrow alleyways in this
  crowded area have been covered and transformed into stalls and shops.
1.1 Location
• Located at the heart of Panaji,the capital of Goa, near the mandovi river.

1.2 Accessibility
• The market is accessible from the two sides along the Bernado Guedes road which is the main entry from this road and
  the Brazil road.
• The market is also located at the junction of the 18 June road and the market Road.

• The market complex is separated as dry and wet market in 2 different building, the fish and meat market is at the entrance
  and the new market has vegetables and commercial shops in a 2 storeyed building.

1.4 Built-open
• The built space dominate over the open space and the open space issued for parking and circulation space.
• A similar built open relationship is visible in the area except GMC building.
• The restriction in the site area and the requirement could have been reason for lack of open space.
• At the building level there is no ratio of open bills pages higher.
1.5 Planning
• There are 4 Main entry points, leading to the central large space from which the first floor is accessed from either sides.
• At each corner of the wing there are 2 secondary entries too.
• Basement parking entry is from South.
• The loading and unloading bay is on the rear side of the building, that is south.
1.6 Functional Zoning
• At the building level , the outer shops are faced towards the open space, with a veranda.
• The main entries leading to the central space is winged for vegetables and grocery items, which are stalls.
• There are platforms for the placing of items, in which items are kept for selling.
• The areas are: Vegetable and fruits, Grocery items, fish and meat outside the main complex building and offices at the first
  floor level.
• The built is played with levels, basement served for parking only, the ground floor for vegetables, and grocery items,
  mezzanine floors for electronics stuffs and commercial purposes, municipal offices at the first floor.
• Lack of seating or resting spaces, even the central space lack opportunity for resting.
1.7 Visual Connectivity
• Visual connection is existed between central space and the mezzanine floors.
• It is narrowed down to the ends of the squared plaza.
• Also it is lacked at the corner shops and peripheral shops.
• There is no linkage between fish meat zones and others.
• With 4 cut outs at the 4 corners of the grid faciliatates visual connections.
1.6 Circulation
• A grid Pattern is followed.
• The central core which is 5m wide a d secondary corridors are 2-3 m wide, through which the entry happens.
• The focus is remains towards the central space, Where the circulation is defined.
• There is a monotony in movement in the interiors of the first floor, which creates confusions.
1.7 Natural Light and Ventilation
• The grid pattern has a large primary double height space, which faciliatates ample amount of natural light to the central
  core and the cut outs at the corners helps in dispersal of lights.
• The roof section helps to drewout the heat through exhaust fans located on the roof tops which accelerate the draft
  action.
