REFLECTION PAPER

Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) people power revolution is a significant


event that shaped the history of Filipino people. It shows how freedom can be achieved
without the use violence. This event symbolizes the power of unity and courage that no
matter how powerful a politician can be, things will fall down when humanity chooses to
fight for their rights and take back the liberty that has been taken from them. I have
been hearing things about EDSA Revolution since grade school and I thought that this
event had taken many lives of my fellow Filipino not until I read articles from different
scholars that enlightened me what really happened during this time. This Revolution
was achieved through peaceful means—without bloodshed, without weapons, and
through the sheer will of the Filipino people. Will is the power that Filipinos used to bring
back democracy that has been taken by politicians who abused their power and ruled
over our country to their own greed. They chose to turn their backs from the ought they
should have taken and that is to make our country a place where freedom is the best
thing that could be offered to all Filipino people.

This significant event reminds us that democracy is very fragile and must be
taken care of. The Filipinos who took lots of courage to take part in this revolution did
not just fight for themselves but also for the future generation, ensuring that their voices
should never be put to silence. Their bravery continues to inspire Filipinos to protect
their rights and fight against oppression of any form, knowing that politics is becoming
worse. Apart from the Philippines, the EDSA revolution had a crucial impact to the
world. It has become a model for peaceful revolutions and inspired similar movements
in other countries. For example, the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia (1989) and the
Fall of Berlin Wall (1989) were influenced by the idea that people could overthrow
authoritarian regimes without resorting to violence. EDSA Revolution proved that
dictatorship can be defeated through activism, which also proves that such action is not
always immoral and an absurd thing to do as it does not necessarily destroy peace in
our country.

In a world where many powerful people rule and abuse their power to make
conflicts and struggles longing to achieve freedom the EDSA people power Revolution
remains relevant. It is an absolute reminder that peace can be powerful than violence
and that not all battles require weapons to win. Unity is enough to fight for democracy
and keep our rights and liberty in our hands. This history of EDSA revolution is not just
about the past, but it is also a lesson for future generation. It proves that when people
come together with the shared goal of justice and freedom they can change the course
of history.
