IV. LEGAL BASES:
The Department of Education (DepEd) aims to develop learners who are
numerates and who can apply numeracy skills for various purposes. To achieve
this, critical thinking and problem solving need to be emphasized in the teaching
of Mathematics as well in the design of assessment tool.
Since numeracy skills are the foundation towards learning of all
mathematical competencies across grade levels, the need to assess how much
of it are already in the learners is of prime importance.

V. RATIONALE:
Schools Division Office I Pangasinan aims to develop learners who are numerate
and who can apply numeracy skills for life. To achieve this, critical thinking and problem
solving as well as the design of assessment tools need to be emphasized in teaching
Mathematics.
Numeracy skills are the foundation for learning all mathematical competencies across
grade levels. The need to assess how much has been learned provides an opportunity for
teachers and learners to identify areas of understanding and misunderstanding, thus
assessment plays a key role.
VI. OBJECTIVE/S:
At the end of the activity, the participants are expected to:
1. To help Mathematics teachers and curriculum implementers get an idea about
the numeracy skill and level of their learners, the Schools Division Office 1
Pangasinan Curriculum Implementation Division, developed a division-wide
numeracy assessment, designed to identify numerates and non-numerates among
learners in Grades 1 to 12, with a specific focus on the four fundamental operations
in Mathematics - Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division.
2. Identifying non-numerates early provides an opportunity for intervention and
support. Specialized support can be provided to help struggling learners catch up,
preventing long-term learning gaps.
