Vacation Project

Period 2
Introduction- Trip to Costa Rica
Costa Rica is known for lush, white beaches and even black volcanic rock
beaches, it’s warm and humid climate make it perfect for both plants and animals.
Some pros include many opportunities to surf, zipline, and experience the culture.
Some cons may include the stormy season, which would include heavy, rain and
wind, and potential language barriers may also be an issue. Traveling from the US
will require a passport and travel insurance can offer peace of mind, travel
insurance usually covers any lost or stolen items that you take on vacation
.
Budget
I believe that the total cost of this vacation will cost around $2,500-$4,000, that
includes plane tickets, transportation, food, entertainment, and souvenirs.
Weather
If I was to travel to Costa Rica in June the weather would be great for all activities
June is usually Costa Rica‘s rainy season however many days of the month are
still sunny with the temperatures ranging from 75° to 90°. Costa Rica‘s humidity
also ranges from 60 to 90% in June. most days in June will have occasional
rainfall in the afternoon hours.
Packing list
● Large reusable water bottle to counter dehydration from the humidity
● Swimsuits and beach towels for ocean days
● Sunscreen because of high UV rays
● Hiking shoes and sandals
● Bug spray for mosquitoes
● Translation app
● Lightweight or dry fit clothes for hot weather
Transportation
If I were to depart Miami international and fly to Costa Rica San Jose airport, it
would cost approximately $442 round trip and the flight would be just under three
hours.
Lodging
I would stay at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel cariari San Jose from June 23 to the
30th it would be around $125 a night and in total I would spend about $875 not
including tax. I would like to stay at this hotel because it has a fitness center, spa,
and is a beachfront resort. This resort also has high ratings and is not too
expensive.
Dining
I would most likely dine at small family owned restaurants to help save money I
would ideally like to only spend about $80 on food a day that is still $560 for every
day of the vacation included. I would like to enjoy traditional, Costa Rican cuisine
like rice and beans, pico de gallo, ceviche, and plantains.
Sightseeing
Some exciting sightseeing options are:
● Monteverde cloud forest reserve: Costs $26
● Manuel Antonio beach: Costs $18
● Zipline through the rainforest: Costs $50
These offer great views, great hikes, and relaxing times on the beach.
Transportation during the vacation
Issues with transportation during the vacation can be resolved by renting a car, for
the entire week, the cheapest option would be a SUV, they are great for rough
roads and long trips. I will need to add insurance so that if a accident happens it’s
covered, with all the protection plans available choosing the most expensive
option might be better especially if I have never drove in another country. The
grand total for the entire week would come out to $1,232.43.
Extras
I would like to set aside a good $700 for vacation souvenirs, snacks, parking fees, tipping
for good service, etc. I will spend it on:
Approximate prices:
Snacks: $100
Souvenirs: $250
Parking fees: $50
Snorkeling gear: $150
Tipping: $50
Anything else $100

Conclusion
In total my vacation costed $3,903.43, this includes spending money, car
rental, hotel fees, food, and entertainment. If I had more money I might choose
to fly first class both ways to and from Costa Rica or I might have even
upgraded hotel rooms. If I had more money I would like to dine at more
expensive restaurants and I would spend more on souvenirs. If I had less
money I would try to find cheaper flights, use coupons, instead of paying for a
rental car I would take a rideshare service.
