MATCH THE WORDS WITH THE SONG

How deep is your love

I know your eyes in the morning sun

I feel you touch me in the pouring rain
And the moment that you wander far from me
I wanna feel you in my arms again
And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love, then you softly leave
And it's me you need to show
How deep is your love , is your love
How deep is your love
I really mean to learn

'Cause we're living in a world of fools

Breaking us down when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me.
I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You're the light in my deepest, darkest hour
You're the savior when I fall
And you may not think I care for you
When you know down inside that I really do
And it's me you need to show

How deep is your love, is your love

How deep is your love, I really mean to learn
'Cause we're living in a world of fools
Breaking us down when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

My working day starts very early. From Monday to Friday I get up at half past
three and I have a shower and a cup of coffee. I usually leave the house at ten past
four because the car always arrives a few minutes early. I get to the studio at
about five o'clock and start work. My programme Good Morning Britain starts at
seven o'clock and finishes at nine o'clock. Then I leave the studio at a quarter past
ten. After that, I go shopping and visit some friends. I get home at three o'clock. A
woman helps me with the housework and the ironing. I read a newspaper and do
some work.
Then my husband gets home at half past five in the evening and I cook dinner. We
stay at home in the evening. We don't go out because I go to bed very early. We

When sleeping becomes a business

Telling people to sleep well is not an original idea, but providing them with a
way of having a short sleep in the middle of the day is quite new.
Chad Smith, an American businessman, is offering just such a service in
New York. He has started a sleep centre for office workers and anyone who
wants a short sleep or 'power nap' as he calls it. The name of his company is
Subwaysleep and it is situated on purpose in the busiest part of New York
on the 24th floor of a big building. Mr Smith explains: 'Subwaysleep is the
first place in the United States where people can come and take a midday
power nap. It helps managers to work at their best all through the day. Our
customers have a limited amount of time, so we make it as easy as possible
for them, including ordering them lunch, and the whole thing only takes
about twenty-five minutes.'
It costs $14 for 20 minutes in Mr Smith's specially-designed invention,
known as a 'sleeping pod'. It is actually a comfortable chair that moves
gently and steadily, so that anyone sitting in it falls asleep. There is a cover
which customers can pull down so that other people can't see them. It also
has a light to wake people at the end of their session. 'Most people come in
curious but full of doubt, says Mr Smith. 'However, they leave truly believing
in the service we offer. One advantage of these pods is that they can fit
anywhere, such as airports, motorway restaurants and even in offices.'
Mr Smith explains that experiments have been carried out by scientists at
Michigan University which suggest that even a short sleep can stop the
brain getting too tired. 'A 20-minute midday sleep refreshes people,
improves memory, learning and mood, and can improve the ability to work
by up to 30 per cent.
Luigi Panta is one of Subwaysleep' satisfied customers. 'It's enormously
efficient for me, he says. '1 wish there were sleeping pods available in more
places!
Mr Smith got the idea for the pods when he was working as a banker and
noticed many colleagues falling asleep at their desks. What was missing in
the office was a comfortable and convenient place to have a quick sleep
during the day! So he studied sleep at the Carnegie Mellon University for
two years and, at the end of the course, he decided his idea was such a
good one that he could start a business based on it. The sleeping pods he
designed cost $8000 each and Mr Smith has received enquiries about them
from around the world. 'The need for something like this, at such a
reasonable price, is felt beyond the United States, he says.

Baseball – America's National Sport

Baseball is America's national sport. But, (1) (although) it originated in the USA baseball
is played in many other countries, especially in Central and South America and Japan.
Baseball (2) became an Olympic sport at the 1992 Olympics. Baseball is not only a
sport but an American (3) way of life. Many families spend summer afternoons (4)
with their children at a baseball park, sitting in the stands with popcorn and hot
dogs. They cheer for their favourite team and wear their baseball caps. The game (5)
is played with a long wooden bat and a small hard ball. The players have large
heavy gloves to (6) catch the ball. They usually (7) wear light shirts and knee-
long trousers. Shoes have spikes on them to help players run on the field. A baseball
field is divided (8) into two parts. The infield has the shape of a diamond and is
bordered by the bases that runners run around. A few players stand in the grassy
outfield and wait to catch the ball (9) without letting it drop on the ground. A
baseball game consists of nine parts (10) called innings. Teams take turns trying to
score runs and defend. A pitcher throws the ball towards a batter (11) who tries to hit
it so that the other team can't catch it. The batter tries to run around the bases as (12)
quickly as possible. A ball that is hit into the stands is called a home run. The team
that scores the most runs after nine innings (13) wins the game.
