Clutch
General procedures
Procedures contained in these instructions may require the use of tools and equipment
considered to be "standard workshop equipment". For example: Vehicle lifts, engine hoists,
transmission jacks and power unit support beams. It is essential that personnel carrying out
these procedures are fully qualified to operate the equipment ensuring that health and
safety regulations are adhered to.
If clutch pressure plate is to be reused, mark clutch pressure plate to ensure it is refitted in its
original position on the flywheel.
Mark clutch centre plate fitting direction to enable it to be correctly refitted.
Disconnect battery earth lead.
If fitted, check condition of spigot bearing. Replace if necessary.
Ensure transmission input shaft splines are clean and clutch centre plate slides freely.
Lubricate transmission input shaft splines and release bearing mechanism with specified
lubricant (where quoted).
DO NOT use an impact wrench to slacken or tighten bolts.
If necessary, bleed clutch hydraulic system after refitting. Use specified brake fluid.

Transmission removal

Remove transmission from underneath the vehicle.
Note :Ensure steering remains centralised. Note :Ensure
driveshaft roller bearing remains intact in transmission.
Components to be removed include:
Engine undershield.
Exhaust downpipe from catalytic converter.
Driveshafts from transmission.
Front subframe complete with steering rack.
Power steering pipe bracket from front subframe.

No special procedures specified.
Transmission installation
Current industry best practice recommends that all safety related nuts, bolts and fastenings
are replaced.
Refit components in reverse order of removal.
Gear change linkage adjustment

Clutch adjustment
Note :Ensure clutch release lever free play is 27-30 mm.
Excessive movement of the clutch release lever may result
in the clutch release bearing becoming detached.
Self-adjusting. No adjustment required.
