Ms. Charmaine R. Esguerra
“Ma’am Cha”
Before we begin our school work
today,
Let us take some time to pray.
Help us God to be kind and strong,
to know what’s right
and to know what’s wrong.
Guide us on our studies to learn new
things.
Bless us everyday and be with us
throughout the day.
Let’s Pray Amen.

POP BLUFF
A type of technical drawing that shows information about
power and lighting which consists of lines, symbols,
dimensions and notations to accurately convey the design
is Electrical Drawing
Electronics design are used as a reference for
general use in laying-out and planning an electrical
drawing that should be in accordance to the
Electrical Code of the Philippines.
The Republic Act 384 covers an act to regulate the
practice of Electrical Engineering in the Philippines,
to provide for the licensing and registration of
electrical engineers and electricians and for other
purposes.
The power utility company all over the

Quarter 4 Topic 2
ELECTRICAL
SYMBOLS
At the end of the lesson,
learners are expected to:
• Determine the different
electrical lighting symbols;
• Explain the uses of each
symbol;
• Draft the electrical lighting
symbols.
Electrical Symbols
are small drawings or pictograms, used
to represent various electrical devices
on a diagram or plan of an electrical
circuit. These symbols are used in
sketching schematic diagrams for
numerous types of electrical works.
Lighting Layout
is an electrical plan that shows the flow
of house lightings through electrical
symbols.
Electrical
symbols
and technical
terms
used in
lighting layout:
PANEL BOARD
1. PANEL BOARD – is a
component of an electricity
supply system that divides an
electrical power feed into
subsidiary circuits, while
providing a protective fuse or
circuit breaker for each circuit
in a common enclosure. It is
also commonly placed in the
kitchen and/or under the stair.
2. CIRCUIT HOME RUN –
it is the electrical cable
that carries power from
the main circuit breaker
panel to the first electrical
box, plug, or switch in the
circuit.

CIRCUIT BREAKER – part
of panel board that is an
electrical switch designed
to protect an electrical
circuit from damage
caused by excess current
from an overload or short
circuit.
3. FLUORESCENT LAMP –
very bright, usually tube-
shaped electric light having
a coating of fluorescent
material on its inner surface
4. BULB LIGHT – one in which a filament
gives off light when heated to
incandescence by an electric current.
5. PIN LIGHT – a light fixture that is installed into
a hollow opening in a ceiling.
6. CHANDELIER – a decorative light that
hangs from the ceiling and has several parts
like branches for holding bulbs.
7. WALL LAMP – a lamp that is fixed onto a wall.
8. SWITCH – most commonly used to operate
electric lights, permanently connected
equipment, or electrical outlets. It is categorized
as:
S1 – single switch
S2 – two gang switch
S3 – three gang switch
S2w – two-way switch
S3w – three-way switch
S1 S3
S2
TWO-WAY/THREE-
WAY SWITCH
(S2W/S3W)
are electric switch that
has two or
three terminals; used
to control a circuit
from two different
locations.
9. SWITCH LINE – it is in the form of broken curve
line that shows the connection of the switch to the
lighting bulb/lamp.
10. CIRCUIT LINE – it is in the form of solid line
that shows the connection of the lights to the
circuit home run.
11. ELECTRIC METER – it is a device that
measures the amount of electric energy
consumed by a building, tenant space, or
electrically powered equipment.
12. SERVICE ENTRANCE
– it is the equipment
needed at the point
where electrical service
enters a building.
