Hackathon

The project proposal focuses on developing a system to detect water leakage, unauthorized connections, and monitor pressure levels in water supply systems. It involves using an acoustic leak detector, ground penetrating radar, and pressure sensors integrated with Arduino for real-time monitoring and alerts. The project aims to be completed by March 2025, with a total cost of Rs. 3,500 and financial assistance requested for necessary components.

1. Theme: Rural & Urban development/ Manufacturing/ Engineering Technology

2. Problem statement: How might we develop a system to identify water leakage,

detect unauthorized connections, prevent illegal water siphoning through motors,
and monitor pressure levels at the tail end of the water supply distribution main?

6. ProjectSummary: Water leakage refers to the accidental escape of water from a

plumbing system, such as pipes, tanks, faucets or fittings. It can occur in various
forms and in different locations. Unauthorised water consumption through theft or
illegal connections contributes to apparent losses, often occurring through direct
tampering with the distribution network or unauthorised tapping into the system.
Illegal water siphoning involves the unauthorized extraction of water, often using
pumps or motors, which can lead to significant legal and environmental issues. To
overcome this issues we have designed a system which consists of acoustic leak
detector, ground penetrating radar and pressure sensor which will be integrated
with the Arduino. This combinations allows for real-time data collections, analysis
and alerts, leading to timely identification of leaks and potential cost savings in
maintainence and repairs. And this method will be accurate and cost effective.

7. Proposed solution with methodology: When a leak occurs an acoustic leak

detector which is a powerful tool used to identify and locate leaks in various systems
by detecting acoustic noise generated by the leak. Once a sensor detects an unusual
noise or vibration pattern associated with a potential leak, it sends this information
to a controller unit arduino for analysis and interpretation. It will provide alert to
the user. Similarly when there is any unauthorized connection detected, the smart
water meters will identify this action and send this information to the controller
unit. This controller unit will provide the alert to the users. The pressure sensor
will monitor the pressure at the tail point of the water. If any pressure drop occurs
the controller will provide provide the alert or any messages to the user.

UNDERTAKING

1. ALL the students are studying in final year engineering. All the students
are registered only once for this scheme.
2. The college will provide the basic infrastructure and other required
facilities to the students for timely completion of their projects.
3. The college assumes to undertake the financial and other management
responsibilities of the project. We are aware that the amount is to be
utilized only for the purpose sanctioned i.e. to meet the expenses for
developing the prototype and not for purchase of computer consumables,
stationaries, honorarium, overhead etc. Un utilised balance amount will be
returned back to the University after the time of completion of the project.
