Outline
Introduction

Attention getter: Question: Have you ever felt bad for yourself?

Background: We as human beings constantly face difficulties

throughout our lives, and without the right attitude, we may lose our
way

Specific purpose of speech: The purpose of this speech is to help

people understand my three core values in life: gratitude, empathy, and
being proactive.

Thesis: Gratitude, Empathy, and Proactivity are the three main keys to
my ultimate happiness.

Transition: The first step to happiness is acknowledging what you

already have—Be Grateful!

Value speech 1
Main point 1

Introduction:
Gratitude helps me focus on the good things I already have instead of
what I lack, allowing me to find beauty and happiness in life's small
moments

Supporting point 1: Shift my mindset from scarcity to abundance.

Evidence: Instead of dwelling on my limited study equipment and

resources, I'm grateful that I can get an education without worrying
too much about housing, food, and basic accommodations.

Supporting point 2: Being aware of the beauty of little things in life

Evidence: By not focusing on what I lack, I can actively see that I

have a great neighborhood, the flowers in my backyard are
blooming beautifully, and my dad's food is delicious. These are
things that keep me happy every day.

Clincher and transition:

Understanding my privileges and being satisfied with what I have is

essential for happiness; otherwise, I'll be chasing an endless
destination. Moreover, only when we're aware of our privileges can we
truly develop empathy

Main point 2

Introduction
Treat people the way you want to be treated. I strive to be kind, as we
never truly know what someone has been through

Supporting point 1: What goes around come around. Being kind to

others means being kind to yourself.

Evidence: By being nice and helpful in my ability, I made many

precious friendships that carry me through difficult time.

Supporting point 2: Being curious, not judgmental to attract positive

things (law of attraction)

Evidence: I used to cut ties with my friend because in my difficult

time she wasn’t there for me. Turn out, she was dealing with her

Value speech 2
own difficulties at that time.

I focused on my struggles so much that I lacked empathy for others,

and that cost me a great friendship

Clincher and transition:

While kindness and sympathy attract positive outcomes for yourself and
others, being proactive is what keeps you moving forward

Main point 3

Introduction
You’re responsible for your own life, don’t just let it be or go with the
flow

Supporting point 1: You’re not moving forward if you’re not actively

changing yourself

Evidence: Although I’m new to the countries with barely anyone to

guide me, I did my own research to set up a study path for myself.

If I sit around and wait I wouldn’t be here by now

Supporting point 2: Inaction can lead to missed opportunities and

regrets

Evidence: As previously discussed regarding my friendship, I had

the opportunity to address the situation through open
communication and potentially save the relationship. However, my
passive approach ultimately led to an outcome I now reflect upon
with regret.

Clincher and transition

We’re fully in control of our lives regardless of backgrounds and

surroundings. This is the last and also the most important core value of
mine that reminds me to keep pushing and work hard

Conclusion
Having those 3 words “Gratitude, Empathy, Proactivity” in mind helps me
navigating through difficulties with a positive mindset and move forward in
life

Value speech 3
Closing statement:
My favourite series is Rookie and there’s a line in the series:

The less time you spend feeling sorry for yourself and doing what needs to
be done, the happier you are
This gives me a reality check and has shaped my core values to this day
