1.0 Procedure

1.1 Pipe Laying Via Open Trench Method

a) Generally, water pipes will be laid via open trench method. Prior to the trenching work, the
trial pit is conducted by hand-digging with the combined utilities drawing in hand to confirm
the existing services. The minimum depth required for any pipe laid using open trench
method shall be 300mm - 1 m from ground level to the top of pipe.
b) Identify the pipe routing and mark on site before start excavate open trench
c) After all the mark area are confirm, start excavate using machine or manual by hand.
d) Laid the pipe in the open trench and do the connection between pipe until complete. The
pipe installation can refer to figure 1 and 2
e) Call for inspection physical installation and proceed with pressure test with IOW before start
backfill the earth.
f) Backfill the earth and clear all the waste materials and debris

1.2 Installation of Ductile Iron Pipes

a) Prior to installation of the pipes, check and study the piping routing. Mark the hanging
points where the pipe route is indicated as per shop drawing and drill the holes that have
been marked. All pipes and fittings shall be cleaned of soil and dust and inspected for
visual cracks. Upon determination of pipes insert the type A bracket in to the pipe move
to the hanging rod point than hang the pipes accordingly. The type A bracket supported
by steel threaded rod and fastened in place using bolt and nuts. Connection of pipe and
pipe to fitting shall be via flange type or socket-to-spigot type.
b) Puddle flange shall be fully welded on pipes for water stop and reinforcement purpose.
All penetration through R.C wall shall incorporate a puddle flange.
c) Gasket is places onto socket on, after which the socket is cleaned and lubricant applied.
Spigot end is then push onto the socket end to complete connection. In cases where the
connections are connected by flanges to flanges always tighten the bolt and nuts on
opposite ends. Never tighten bolt and nuts side by side as this may cause uneven
tightening strength on the flange mating connections. Carry out leakage and hydrostatic
pressure test upon completion of the piping system.
