PERS U SIVE

W RITIN G
WE SHOUL D HAVE MORE
TIME FO R MATHS
Good morning/afternoon Ms. Yen. My name is Thiveyn
Manuth. As we all know, Mathematics is an essential
subject in our curriculum. Some students think
mathematics is not so important. But I think,
mathematics is the most important subject and we
desperately need more time for mathematics. At
present, we only have 4 hours and 30 minutes of
mathematics a week. Do you know that it is hard to
complete work in a short amount of time? here are
some points to show that we need more time for
mathematics. My first point is that mathematics
increases our IQ. My second point is that mathematics
helps us get into university easily. My last point is
that mathematics helps us get into university easily.
Firstly, mathematics increases our IQ. It is scientifically proven that by
doing mathematics our critical thinking and problem-solving improve. A
study published in “Scientific American” investigated the neural
mechanisms underlying mathematical thinking. The research found that
engaging in complex mathematical problems activates specific brain
regions associated with deep concentration and problem-solving. This
improves our overall brain functions and boosts our IQ. Here’s a story
of someone who improved his IQ by doing mathematics. Carson’s journey
included a growing interest in mathematics. His mathematical skills
began to improve significantly. he found that mathematics logical
structure and problem-solving suited his analytical mind. His dedication
helped him develop his his critical thinking and gave a boost to his IQ.
Moreover, mathematics helps us get into university
easily. By doing mathematics in A/L we can do other
subjects including physics, science, etc. Strong
mathematical skills enhance your university
application by boosting standardized test scores,
making you a challenging candidate for STEM
programs, increasing your chances of getting a
scholarship, and demonstrating your critical thinking
and problem-solving abilities. Mathematics is not just
numbers; it’s a gateway to a wide range of academics.
Dr. Terence Tao, a renowned mathematician and
Field Medalist, was admitted to prestigious university
and the University of California, Los Angeles(UCLA)
thanks to his exceptional mathematical abilities.
Finally, mathematics helps us to get a job easily. Most jobs take
candidates who are intelligent and can solve problems easily. A
survey conducted by the National Association of Collegians and
Employers found that 91% of employers consider critical thinking and
problem-solving as essential skills for job applications. Mathematics
makes you an attractive candidate for a job. Math-related careers
often come with higher earning potential. Mathematics skills are
adaptable and applicable across various industries including finance
management, engineering, technology, healthcare, and data science.
Katherine Johnson, an African-American mathematician, who played a
crucial role in the early days of the United States Space Programs.
her exceptional mathematical abilities helped her secure a job at
NASA.
In conclusion, Mathematics play a crucial role in our day-
to-day lives as it boosts our IQ, helps us get to university,
and helps us secure a job. Most of the famous people
were intelligent mathematicians. I hope this has persuaded
you to give us more time for our music lessons as per
the reasons above. We would really appreciate it. Thank
you for your time.
