Quarter 4 – Module 2:
Uses of Water
Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to
use this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress
while allowing them to manage their own learning at home.
Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as
they do the tasks included in the module.

For the learner:

As a learner, you must learn to become responsible of your own
learning. Take time to read, understand, and perform the different
activities in the module.
As you go through the different activities of this module be
reminded of the following:
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any
part of the module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the
exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer Let Us Try before moving on to the other
activities.
3. Read the instructions carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking
your answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are done.
If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this
module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator. Always
bear in mind that you are not alone. We hope that through this material,
you will experience meaningful learning and gain deep understanding
of the relevant competencies. You can do it!

(S4ES-IVb-2).

At the end of this module, you are expected to:

• Identify the different sources of water suitable for human
consumption.
• Explain the uses of water from different sources in the
context of daily activities.

Let Us Study
A. Read and understand the short story. Afterwards, answer the
following questions.

Take Care of Me
(Originally written by the author)

Once upon a time, there was a family who lived near the
seashore. During dawn, Mr. Arthur, the father, together with Mrs.
Rose, the mother, went to the ocean to get fish to eat and sell. They
catch fish using dynamite. They were able to catch different sizes of
fish from biggest to smallest.
Ben, Grace and Tim were well provided with their needs in their
studies and even their wants. They enjoyed comfortable life provided
to them by their parents.
One early morning, the children noticed that there were a lot of
dead fishes floating in the sea. They notified their parents and asked
what happened. Mr. Arthur and Mrs. Rose had no idea on what was
happening.
The next dawn, the parents went fishing again. To their
surprise, they caught nothing. They threw more dynamites but no
fish came out. They went home gloomy and felt frustrated. The family
members sat down and talked what happened. They remembered the
dead fishes drifted out to sea.
“Maybe the fishes in the ocean were poisoned by the dynamite
that you have used”, Ben said. “Big and small fishes get killed due to
the explosions brought by dynamite fishing”, Grace and Tim added.
The parents realized their mistake and blamed themselves.
They promised not to use dynamite in fishing anymore.
Few months later, the family noticed various fishes in the sea.
Mr. Arthur and Mrs. Rose went to the ocean to catch fish. That time,
they used fish net instead of dynamite. Barrels of fishes were caught
and the family was extremely happy with the fish they got.

B. You have already an idea on the importance of taking good

care of the ocean as one of the sources of water. This time
you are now ready to learn the different sources of water.

Water is found on the surface of the earth and underground.

Earth’s surface is composed of almost 70% of water. Here are some
of the sources of water that we use every day (Abracia, Norma M.
et. al. 2014).

Surface water is where the water travels or is stored above

the ground. These are the following:

It does not only help quench our thirst, but it also helps us
clean our surroundings, cooks our foods and even provides
electricity.
We get our needs from various sources of water. The
source of water we use every day depends on the needs that we
have.
