Based on the offer results in 2023, admission reference scores in 2024 are simulated by excluding the results
in Liberal Studies and applying the admission score calculation mechanism and subject weightings of
programmes in 2024.

 Explanatory Notes on the Calculation of Average HKDSE Scores

1. Starting from 2020/21 admissions exercise, the following set of conversion points has been
adopted for calculation of HKDSE Score.

Core and Elective Subjects:

5** = 8.5, 5* = 7, 5 = 5.5, 4 = 4, 3 = 3, 2 = 2, 1 = 1 and Unclassified = 0

Applied Learning Subjects:

Attained with Distinction (II) (accepted as Level 4 at HKDSE) = 4,
Attained with Distinction / Attained with Distinction (I) (accepted as Level 3 at HKDSE) = 3,
Attained = 0

Other Languages:
A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D = 2, E = 1, Others = 0

2. Starting from 2024/25, the level attainment of Citizenship and Social Development / Liberal
Studies would NOT be included in the admission score calculation.

3. The average HKDSE Score without subject weighting is calculated based on the Subject Level
Point only.

The average HKDSE Score with subject weighting is calculated based on the Subject Level Point
x Subject Weighting.

One of the following mechanisms is adopted for calculating the above scores for Bachelor’s
Degree programmes:

• Any Best 5 Subjects: The "best" 5 HKDSE subjects will be taken into account.

• Chinese & English Languages + Any Best 3 Subjects: Chinese Language and English Language,
plus any 3 "best" subjects will be taken into account.

• Any Best 6 Subjects: The "best" 6 HKDSE subjects will be taken into account.

• 4 Core + Best 2 Elective Subjects: The 4 core subjects including Chinese Language, English
Language, Mathematics and Liberal Studies, plus 2 "best" elective subjects will be taken into
account.
