Significance of the Study
This study aims to help individuals understand the relationship of excessive
screen time and academic performance among the Grade 11 senior high school students
of University of Cebu - Maritime Education and Training Center. The findings of this
study will provide benefits to the following people:
Students. The findings of this study will assist students in understanding that
excessive screen usage might have undesirable consequences of its own. Students may
discover that this can impact their sleeping patterns, cognitive abilities, and overall
retention of information, which can lead to challenges in learning environments. The
purpose of this study is to suggest strategies for students to regulate and limit screen time
to a more manageable level. Strategies may involve creating technology-free areas at
home, implementing regular study breaks, and setting time limits on recreational screen
use.
Parents. The results of the study will help parents understand and become aware
that their children's excessive screen time is a major issue. This study will help parents
determine how excessive screen time affects their children’s focus, study habits, and
academic performance. The parents will therefore be able to assist in regulating and
maintaining their children's screen time by using the outcomes of this study. Structured
family media plans can be implemented by parents, who can teach their kids to set
realistic screen time goals and have conversations about media use.
Teachers. The results of this study can help teachers understand the challenges
students face due to excessive screen time and its impact on academic performance.
Additionally, teachers can monitor students who frequently use their phones during class,
establish rules for appropriate screen time use, and promote hands-on activities, group
work, and movement breaks to reduce screen time and encourage engagement.
School Administrators. This study's findings will help school administrators
grasp how excessive screen time can impact students' academic performance. As an
outcome, the school administration will hold seminars on the importance of screen time
limitation, how to establish rules for screen usage, supporting offline activities, and
encouraging effective time management. These programs aim to improve learning
outcomes and help students stay focused on their studies.
2
Future Researchers. This study will help future researchers better grasp the
harmful impacts of excessive digital gadget usage, especially on students' developing
brains. Furthermore, the results of this study can serve as a significant reference for future
researchers who intend to continue and expand our understanding of excessive screen
time, which will benefit a great number of individuals impacted by this issue.
