Should Homework be banned in school?

Homework is a part of education that’s been there for long years, but unfortunately may parents and
students debate on whether it is beneficial for the educational curriculum or not. While some argue that
the homework reduces the family time and personal time where the others maintain that it is
promoting learning in home. Should homework be prohibited? Although the homework helps in
practicing the content studied in school, it should not be excessive that leads to stress. There is no
proof that whether the homework is always improving the learning outcome.

When the students have too much homework that to be done in home, they miss out spending quality
time with their family and their personal space. After the school hours they should utilize the time to
relax, to follow their hobbies and to socialize with the people around. Family and the surrounding are
the first phase where a child can grow emotional well being and personal development. Rather than
working on the excessive homework the student should get the opportunity to engage in activities that
helps them to grow general knowledge and excellence outside the academics.

Giving Excessive homework to the students can cause anxiety and stress. Many children spend more
hours doing homework even after the school time leaving them exhausted. Many studies states that
excessive homework can lead to sleep illness and mental health issues, hence students after spending 5
– 6 hours in school should spend their free time on more different activities not only just the homework.

A true fact is that doing too much of homework is not actually improving the student’s academic
outcome as they rush to finish the assignments given, rather than actually learning it. Instead of just
giving the students too much homework, the teachers and schools can focus on providing quality
education classroom and provide the rest of time to rest and recharge themselves for the next academic
day.

To summaries, while homework has some benefits, it should not be excessive. Too much of the
homework can take away the personal time, family time and cause stress and anxiety to children and
not always provide a better learning. Hence the schools should find a balance by limiting the works that
they give the children to home and focus on effective learning space in school. This way the students will
be motivated and engaged in the right way of education.
