Universe 2

The solar system consists of the sun and all celestial bodies that orbit it, including planets, moons, and asteroids. Planets are classified into inner (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars) and outer (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune) categories, with Jupiter being the largest and Mercury the smallest. Key points highlight various characteristics of planets and moons, such as the fastest and slowest rotations and revolutions, as well as unique features like the brightest planet (Venus) and the coldest planet (Neptune).

➢ Solar system: Made up of the sun and everthing that orbits

around it, including planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and

meteoroids.

➢ Classification of planets:
1. Inner Planet : The planets closest to the sun.
Mercury,Venus,Earth,Mars
(Biggest Planet in b/w inner planets is Earth and smallest is
Mercury )
2. Outer Plants :The palnets farest to the sun.
Jupiter ,Saturn,Uranus,Neptune
( Biggest Planet in b/w outer planets is Jupiter and smallest is
Neptune )

Descending order of planets in size:

1.Jupiter 2.Saturn 3.Uranus 4.Neptune 5.Earth 6.Venus 7. Mars
8.Mercury

➢ Dwarf Planets: A round objects in space that goes around the su

but is not as large as planets and have gravitional power.
Examples: Pluto , Ceres , Eris Haumea, Makemake (certified by
IAU)
( Biggest Dwarf Planet is Pluto which is present beyond Neptune
orbit in Kuiper belt and smallest is Ceres which is present in
asteroid belt )

➢ Key Points:
1.Biggest Planet : Jupiter
2.Smallest Planet : Mercury
3. Biggest Satellite : Gannymede (Jupiter )
4. Smallest Satellite : Deimos ( Mars )
5. Blue Planet : Earth
6. Green Planet : Uranus (because of methane gas )
7. Red Planet : Mars ( Presence of iron oxide )
8. Fastest Rotation in solar system : Jupiter ( 9hr 55m)
9. Slowest Rotation in solar system : Venus ( 243 days )
10. Fastest revolution in solar system : Mercury ( 88 days )
11. Slowest Revolution in solar system : Neptune ( 165 years )
12. Brightest Planet : Venus ( because its thick clouds reflect most of
sunlight)
13. Evening Star : Venus
14. Morning Star : Venus
15. Hottest Planet : Venus ( Extremly thick atmosphere 100 times
larger than the atmosphere of earth )
16. Coldest Planet : Neptune
17. Nearest Planet to earth : Venus
18. Nearest planet to sun : Mercury
