INTRODUCTION
Sustainable development is a holistic approach to growth that seeks to meet the
needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to
meet their own needs. It includes economic growth, social inclusion, and
environmental protection, aiming for a balanced approach that promotes
well-being for all, future and current generations.

Importance of Sustainable Development Today:

1. Environmental Protection:
● With issues like climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution,
sustainable development encourages practices that minimize
environmental impact and promote conservation.

Sustainable Development in Curitiba, Brazil

1970s, the city faced issues like traffic jams, pollution, and
overcrowding, but under Mayor Jaime Lerner, Curitiba made big
changes that have become a model for cities worldwide.

● Rapid population growth led to traffic, pollution, and strain on
resources.
● The city needed better infrastructure to handle the increasing
population.

- Curitiba introduced a Bus Rapid Transit system with dedicated
