Fly
Away
with Me
Intermediate During this class you will:

• Talk about flying and

different ways to fly.

• Discuss being a pilot.

• Talk about things to

do at the airport.
Warm-up
Share your thoughts.

- Do you like to fly? What do you like and dislike

about the traveling-by-air experience?
Warm-up
- When was the last time you took a flight? Where
did you go? Why did you go?
And you can quote me…
Read and answer the questions.

"The bad news is time flies. The good news is you

are the pilot."
-- Michael Altshuler
(U.S. Entrepreneur)

- What does this quote mean to you?

- Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not?

- How are you the “pilot” in your life? What do you like
to do with your time?

- Do you wish you had more time? Why or why not?

Speak your mind.
Share your thoughts and opinions.

Which is better?

- Flying the red-eye* or flying during the day? Speak

- Flying over land or flying over ocean?
your
- Eating before flying or eating on the plane?
mind.
- Cheap flights with hidden charges or expensive flights
with all charges included?

- Packing well in advance or packing the day before?

*red-eye flight = an overnight or late-night flight

Imagine that!
As a class, create a story.

Imagine you overslept and have to catch a flight

that leaves in two hours. The airport is at least 30
minutes away. Imagine
- What will you do to get to the airport as soon as
possible?
- What will you do when you get to the airport?
that!
- What are some things you must get done before
getting on your flight?
- What will you do if you miss your flight?
Answer me this!
Take turns asking each other questions.

1. If you could fly anywhere in the world, where would

you go? Why? Answer
2. What do you like to do while you wait at the airport?

3. What are the best and worst airports you have ever
me this!
been to? What made them so good/bad?

4. What do you think are some good services an airport

could offer? How would it make the travel experience
better?

5. What are the three most important travel tips you

consider before traveling?
Before you go!
Here’s some cultural fun:

To be a professional pilot in the U.S., you must go

to flight school. You must complete at least 1,500
flying hours and pass multiple tests to obtain a
commercial pilot license. A recreational pilot
license, on the other hand, only requires 30 flying
hours.

- Do you think being a pilot is a difficult job?

- How can a person become a pilot in your country?
- What are some other jobs a person can have related
to flying? Would you like to work for an airline?
- Do you have a pilot’s license? If so, where do you like
to fly? If not, would you be interested in getting one?
Wrap-up
Pick one question to discuss: Wrap-up
about today’s class?
1. What did you like most today?

2. What do you need to improve on?

3. What did you do well on today?
