1 Background of the Study

Each and every parent desires their child to develop into more successful

individuals in all aspects of life. In accordance with Carly Seifert (2017),

expectations from parents enable children to set high standards for themselves,

encourage them to strive for success, and help them develop their self-esteem.

Even so, if their parents frequently set excessive pressure on their offspring, it often

has a unwanted effect on the way they perform because of the extra pressure that

comes with it.

Parental pressure is a type of conduct when parents have excessively high

standards for their children that are either unattainable or unlikely to be met. It is the

emotional strain that parents frequently place on their kids, and it’s usually

connected to the children’s academic achievement. Some parents push their

children to succeed better than they should, especially in their education.

Furthermore, Deb et al. (2015) found that 66.0% of the students reported

experiencing pressure from parents, a situation where their parents pushed towards

greater academic achievement.

Parents that are mindful of their child's learning struggles serve as an individual's

buddy, teacher, and mentor whereas additionally motivating them to do their best. In

light of this, the nervousness of the student is reduced, and learning is promoted
to succeed academically (Nguyena et al. 2021). Thus, the support of parents has

played an essential part in molding students’ perception of his capacity to advance

academically (Lawrence & Barathi, 2016).

The evaluation of a student's performance in every field of study is called academic

performance. Teachers frequently check learner’s examination results and

classroom performance to determine how well they are doing in school. As defined

by Narad and Abdullah (2016), Academic performance is an assortment of

information that has been evaluated by a teacher through marks and/or objectives

for learning that students and teachers set to be accomplished over an established

period of time.
