The Last Supper
About three years after Jesus first began preaching and teaching publicly, Jesus told his disciples that he
wanted to celebrate the Passover with them in Jerusalem.
When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the table. Jesus said, “I have been very
eager to eat this Passover meal with you.”
Then Jesus got
up from the
table and
poured water
into a basin. He
began to wash
the disciples’
feet, drying
them with the
towel he had
around him.
After washing
their feet, Jesus
said, “I have
given you an
example to
follow. Just as I
have loved you,
you should love
each other.”
During the Passover meal, Jesus took some bread and broke it. He said, “Take and eat this. This is my
body, which I will give for you. Do this to remember me.”
Then Jesus picked up a cup of wine and said, “Drink this. It is my blood of the New Covenant that I will
pour out so that God will forgive your sins.”
After the meal, Jesus prayed for his disciples. Then Jesus and his disciples walked to the Mount of Olives.
