OPENING SPEECH – YEMEN HRC TOPIC 1
Addressing Challenges to Freedom of Speech in an Era of
Technological Advancement
Esteemed Chair, Vice Chair and fellow delegates
Panel, is death really the price to pay for exercising the right to
freedom of speech and expression, is the truth supposed to be kept so
secret from audiences going from infant to elderly, the question is
does Yemen really provide the freedom of speech is it station?
The Yemen Government has stated than anyone has the right and
freedom of speech as long as it does not go against state leaders and
against religion in other words No Blasphemy and No criticizing
the head of state.
Nevertheless, these conditions prove to be useless inface of the
ongoing suppression of Press freedom of expression and how Media
is constantly controlled, censored and journalism reaching a
monopoly like hierarchy where channels are filtered out to the liking
of the Yemen Government whether international or domestic. These
are the problems faced by Yemen in the status quo.
The Delegate of Yemen hopes the international community is able to
address such challenges in resolutions and able to come up with the
right policies in order to help Yemen’s dire condition
