IMPORTANT INFORMATION
A Only trained personnel may install the unit!
A Observe automotive industry quality standards!
A Fire hazard. When drilling, take care not to damage concealed wiring harnesses, the fuel tank
or fuel lines!
A Never drill into supporting or safety-relevant body parts!
A Only install the unit in vehicles with a 12-V on-board voltage and negative pole on the vehicle
body. Installation in unsuitable vehicles (e. g. heavy goods vehicles, buses) results in a risk of mal-
function, damage and fire!
A Always ensure correct assignment of vehicle connections. Incorrect assignment of the connec-
tions may damage the unit or the vehicle electrical system/electronics!
A Do not damage safety system wiring (airbag etc.)! (Wiring is normally specially marked, for
example by labels.)
A Do not use test lamps to test the voltage, since excessively high currents can damage/destroy
electronic components.
A Insulate all junctions with shrink hose or insulating tape.
A Fit toothed washers at earth connections to the vehicle body. If necessary, remove paint and
dirt beforehand. Subsequently, protect bare metal against corrosion.
A In order to ensure perfect installation, use only the original components supplied. The use of
non-authorised components may result in malfunction.

Installation in vehicles equipped with standard ISO

connectors
The unit can be installed without major preparation in vehicles equipped with ISO standard
connectors. A few signals may have to be routed to ISO plug A (refer to connection overview
of ISO chamber A).
For problem-free installation on vehicles with different connection requirements, ask your
dealer for special cables.

Installation in vehicles without standard ISO connectors

If no adapter cables are available for your vehicle, connect the unit as described in the section
on establishing electrical connections.

Taking safety precautions, Fig. 1

A Before starting work, disconnect the earth lead from the negative terminal of the vehicle bat-
tery in order to prevent short circuits. In this process, observe the vehicle manufacturer’s safety
instructions (alarm system, airbag, immobiliser, etc.).

Making the electrical connections
Install all cables with care. For wiring, refer to the connection diagram on the cover page
and the following table.
Non-assigned cables should not be cut off. Instead, they should be insulated, wound and
secured to one side. They may be required for retrofitting additional functions.

Connection overview, ISO chamber A, Fig. 2:

Pin Colour Designation Connection
A1 No function
A2 Green/white REVERSE Switch input reversing signal (reversing light positive)

A4 Yellow B+ + 12-V permanent positive
A5 No function
A6 Orange ILLUMI Switch input for pilot light
A7 Red ACC +12-V ignition positive / Accessory contact / ACC
A8 Black SUP-GND Negative battery pole, earth

A Connect electrical signals only to suitable points in the vehicle.

A If a separate connection is made directly to the battery, protect the positive lead with a 10-A
fuse close to the battery (max. distance of 10 - 15 cm).

A Use only loudspeakers with an impedance of 4 Ohms!

A Do not connect the loudspeakers to earth!
A Do not connect the booster/amplifier directly to the loudspeaker outputs!
A Do not connect loudspeakers via an external fader!

Other connections, Fig. 4, 10

Installation instructions 33

■ Hand brake signal – PARKING

English
☞ Connect the pink wire to a suitable hand brake point.
✎ When the hand brake is applied, the signal must lie at earth potential.
✎ For reasons of driving safety, video images from the DVD and AUX sources are only dis-
played on the TFT monitor of the main unit when the hand brake is applied.
■ Telephone mute – “MUTE”:
☞ Connect the brown “MUTE” cable to the mute function output of your hands-free unit.
■ Navi audio switching – “NAVI MUTE“:
☞ Connect the grey “NAVI MUTE” cable with the supplied quick connector to the MUTE out-
put of the navigation computer.
✎ Navigation instructions are then transmitted via the loudspeakers of the multimedia sys-
tem.
■ Reversing camera – “Camera”:
Connect a reversing camera to this input.
✎ If the switch input for the reverse gear is connected (see Connection overview, ISO cham-
ber A), the video image from the reversing camera is displayed automatically as soon as
reverse gear is engaged.
✎ VDO Dayton reversing cameras can be connected via the MI 2050 interface.
■ AUX-AV input – “AUX IN VIDEO” and “AUX IN L/R”:
☞ Connect the video output of the AV source to the yellow socket on the unit’s front panel.
☞ Connect the right-hand channel of the AV source’s audio output to the adapter cable’s
red socket “AUX IN R”.
☞ Connect the left-hand channel of the AV source’s audio output to the adapter cable’s
white socket “AUX IN L”.
✎ Video signals are output to the TFT monitor only if the hand brake signal has been routed
properly (see “Hand brake signal – PARKING”).
■ Audio/output front – “LINE OUT FRONT L&R”:
A power amplifier and additional loudspeakers can be linked to the unit via this connection.
✎ In multi-zone operation, the front unit’s audio signal is played via this output.
■ Monitor output – “REAR MONITOR”:
An additional monitor (e.g. rear monitor) can be linked to the unit via this connection.
✎ In multi-zone operation, the video signal of the DVD player, AUX input or SD card reader
is played via this output.
■ Audio/output rear – “REAR ZONE OUT L&R”:
When using a rear monitor, you can attach the audio signal to the monitor via this connec-
tion.
✎ In multi-zone operation, the audio signal of the DVD player, AUX input or SD card reader
is played via this output.

Installing the unit

The VRM 6200 can be installed using both the double DIN installation bracket provided and
vehicle-specific installation brackets. Details on both installation methods can be found in
the sections below.
■ Note before installing, Fig. 5, 6
Allow sufficient clearance
❑ for the wiring and ventilation behind the unit,
❑ for extension of the TFT monitor in front of the unit.
Mounting the unit with the DIN installation bracket
1. Insert the installation bracket into the double DIN slot and bend the appropriate metal tabs
inwards using a screwdriver (Fig. 7). Take care not to damage any hidden parts in the dash-
board.
2. Check that all the required leads are connected to the multimedia system.
3. Push the unit into the installation bracket until it engages.
■ Removing the unit, Fig. 8
1. Insert the supplied removal tools into the recesses on both sides of the unit until they
engage (1).
2. Pull the unit carefully out of the instrument panel (2) with the removal tools.

Installation with installation brackets (vehicle-specific accessory), Fig. 9

Ask your vehicle dealer for suitable vehicle-specific installation brackets and for a matching
panel.
1. Connect the vehicle-specific installation brackets to the unit. Choose a position where the
screw holes of the brackets match those of the unit.
2. Then screw the unit on securely with two screws on each side.
A Use only the supplied screws for mounting the installation brackets. Using screws that are too
long could damage components in the unit.

Connecting the unit

Reconnect the battery.
