Instrument for study environment

1. Structural questionnaire: The questionnaire consisted of 16 items, four for each component
of the learning environment under investigation. The Likert scale 5-point scale was used; it
contains a list of statements which the students were asked to respond.

Research Question 1: To what extent is the classroom painting and lighting capable of
affecting students’ performance?
I. The classrooms are bright enough for reading
II. You can perform better if your classroom is renovated.
III. Dull classroom painting affect teaching and learning of mathematics.
IV. The classrooms have adequate electricity light supply.

Research Question 2: Under what classroom climate and air quality (ventilation) do
students prefer to learn?
I. Poor ventilation makes lesson boring
II. You can perform better in a moderate classroom temperature.
III. Adequate air ventilation during mathematics lessons might improve your
performance.
IV. At times, you like staying outside because classroom is very hot

Research Question 3: To what extent is comfortable seat and sitting arrangement capable
of affecting students’ academic achievements?
I. The classroom has enough seats and desk for every student
II. Good sitting arrangement makes mathematics learning interesting.
III. The classrooms have enough space for each and every student
IV. No student obstructs another’s view due to seats’ construct

Research Question 4: To what extent is the number of students per class and the classroom
chalkboard influencing students’ academic achievement?
I. You cannot do well in class because your class is overcrowded
II. The chalkboard is noiseless while the teacher is writing.
III. You can clearly see all writing on the board from the back seat
IV. The number of students in your class exceeds forty (40).
