Proposal #1 – Calm Spaces

- Approximate dimensions : 8’5”ft x 8’5”ft x 8’5”ft

- Spatial requirements : surrounding a pillar in the centre of the studio, on the


ground, , preferably one of the ones further back, near to a source of power

- Install process : Large pieces of vertical standing wood branches, fixed to the ground
using other pieces of wood that act almost like a mock-Christmas tree stand, and
those drilled into the floor, so they remain stationary. When the wood is set up for a
space which would consist of 4 pieces, blackout material would be draped over
them, reaching the floor, creating an abstract shaped dome. If the blackout material
can’t reach the floor, I would sew other pieces to one another, or some pinning
system so it looked like a large patchwork cover. The floor would be painted black
using the material and wood as a guide to make the space as dark as possible. The
entrance to each space (aiming for there to be 3), would either consist of a hung
bead door, or blackout that is partially pinned up so that it is clear how to enter. With
the aim to neutralise as much light as possible to the inside of the spaces. Inside,
purple LED lighting that’s power is sourced from plugging in, would be attached to
the inside of each space, surrounding the tops of the vertical wood so that it circles
the inside of the space. In the centre of each space would be a form of comfortable
seating (chair, cushions, beanbag) that would face a form of media for the space, in
one space there would be a TV monitor, with a film playing on a loop. Another would
hold a set of headphones and my additions. And the final one a speaker system with
a set of scented diffusers and additional items relevant to the piece (instruments,
chimes, masks). Any form of electrical equipment would be discreetly wired to the
nearest power-port with no visible wires in the spaces, which proves the advantage
of them surrounding a pillar, where the wires could be easily manipulated around the
spaces.

- AV Equipment : MP3 Player, Headphones with sound projecting system, TV Monitor,


Speakers, LED Fairy lights.

Proposal #2 – Opening Performance
(for opening night)

- Approximate dimensions : 2ft x 2ft x 8ft

- Spatial Requirements : enough space towards the entrance of the studio where
viewers can surround me

- Installation process : A wide plinth, so I can stand on stop and be safe without risk of
falling, with a weight in the bottom so it doesn’t topple. A container with many
pieces of black material for people to take and tie as blind folds.
