Assignment #2

Cognitive development is the mental process of knowing, and includes aspects such as awareness,

reasoning and judgment .It also includes decision making, problem solving, logical thinking and critical

thinking.

Piaget particular insight was the role of maturation in children's increasing capacity to understand their

world. They can’t be under certain task until they are physically mature enough to do so.

That leads him to divide the cognitive development into 4 stages. 1) Sensorimotor. 2) preoperational. 3)

Concrete operation. 4) Formal operation.

According to that theory i can understand why when i start to develop the concept of fraction , a student in

primary 2 didnt notice that 1/2 is greater than 1/4, until he saw it as a slice of pizza .That tells me he was at

the 3 rd stage according to Piaget theory.

The similar when ask a students which is greater than other 2 6 3 or 2 3 6 .He get quite for second and used

the blocks in front him to form the numbers ,then he compared the.

So, seems to me that that age can take other point of view especially when use concretes or manipulative.

As for early ages , I Can remember my nephew ,she was about 2 , she was able to sort blocks color only

without sorting its shapes also , which means she classify only by single feature. According to Piaget she

was at the preoperational stage.
