ARTICLES OF FAITH
“Faith” is the highest degree of mindset of beliefs of a muslim established beyond doubt. These
beliefs are contained in „Eimaan-e-Mufassil‟which states:
I believe in Allah, and Angels, and Books, and prophets, and the Last Day, and the good and
bad luck which is from Allah and in the life hereafter.
All the components of faith have been addressed at different occasions in holy Quran
1-TAUHEED
For ALLAH: In literal sense Shahadaah refers to declaration of Oneness but as per Islamic Shariah
it refers to all activities which highlight declaration of Allah with His specific attributes. There are
THREE specific dimensions of ; i- Lordship (Creator , Maintainer , Owner) ii- Godliness (worthy of
all possible worships & praises) iii- Supreme-ness (Only source of all possible qualities). Allah has
stressed Tauheed in these words in Quran, “Say there is ONE Allah, the Only. Neither He begets,
nor is He begotten. There is none like unto Him.”(112)
Prophet has explained the importance in these words , “Say i believe in Allah then remain steadfast
to it.”
Seal of Prophet-hood
A muslim has to believe that Mohammad (SAW) is the last prophet of Allah. This implicates that
during the time of Mohammad (SAW) he was the only living prophet and no other living prophet
existed any where in the world. Allah granted the qualities of all previous prophets to Mohammad
(SAW) and made his life perfect model. Mohammad terminates the chain of prophets and thus
Islam is universal religion.
Allah has addressed Mohammad as “Khatem-un-Nabiyeen” in Quran.The last revelation clarifies
that Islam is complete and perfect religion. (Today I have perfected your religion and completed
My blessings upon you…..)
Holy prophet SAW was not blessed with any son so that nobody might claim prophet hood even
Surah Kausar was revealed to clarify this.In Quran Allah says: „We have given you best example
in the life of Prophet SAW.‟
Prophet himself said, “There is not going to be any prophet after me.”
Believers understand the special status of prophet SAW which inspires them to follow the life
(Sunnah) of the prophet SAW. Prophet S.A.W terminates the chain of prophets thus Islam is the
best source of gaining pleasure of Allah and to understand that Islam is a complete code of life till
day of Judgement. Islam is universal religion as it is in continuity of guidance of previous prophets.
Islam is not restricted to time and space limitations.
2-ANGELS
Angels are celestial intangible beings which serve as subservient obedient beings of Allah. Angels
are created from light as Quran states:” Indeed Allah created Angels form light and the Jinns from
fire…..”
1
Angels have specialized capabilities including no self decision making ability. Angels can travel
faster than speed of light and possibly can shape-shift. There are four chief angels who have special
duties assigned to them:
a)- Jibrael (Gabriel): Chief angel and carries out massaging for Allah.
b)- Izrael : responsible for taking away souls of human beings.
c)- Mekaeel (Michale): Monitors weathers and growth of food cereals, fruits.
d)- Israfeel : Will enact Day of Judgment by blowing a trumpet.
Muslims become conscious that their deeds as are being noted down impartially by two angels
Karam-un-Katebeen. Muslims are assured of Allah‟s assistance through angels as it happened in
Badr. Mulsims believe the word of Allah as it was brought by chief angel with out any change.
Muslims realize the existence Day of Judgment as it will be enacted by an angel.
3-BOOKS
It is belief that Allah has sent guidance in the form of written books (scriptures) revealed through
angel Jibreel to chosen prophets. Even up till today four specimens of revealed books are available.
Some historians also mention about „Sahuf-e-Ibrahim‟ revealed to Abraham ( exact text has not
been preserved as book). As per Muslims, the teachings of these books have been mutilated with the
passage of time as there was no preservation mechanism.Quran is secure in its text and teachings as
its security has been assured by Alla through HIFZ (memorization by heart) and this makes Quran a
living miracle, as Quran states:
Indeed We have revealed this (Quran) and We are its protector.
All revealed books carry three common teachings: a)- Belief in Tauheed b)- Belief in Prophet c)-
Belief in Day of Judgment . Quran carries the reference for previous books thus authenticates them.
Previous books were incomplete as those were restricted to their time and space. Taurait ----Hazrat
Musa , Zabur ---- Hazrat Daud , Injeel ---- Hazrat Eissa and Quran --- Mohamaad SAW
Quran is pure till today due to Hifz (Memorization). Muslims also give respect to other scriptures
as those were also words of Allah. Muslims understand the importance of fundamental common
teachings. Muslims give references from other revealed books, authenticating message of Allah.
Islam and Quran are the best source of gaining security and pleasure of Allah.
`
4-PROPHETS
Allah has been sending guidance for mankind through His chosen human beings. A messenger
(Nabi) gives guidance verbally only; whereas a prophet (Rasul) written scripture as well.
Prophets are normal human beings with feelings and senses, as in Quran Allah says:
“If there had been angels dewelling on earth, We would have sent an angel as prophet”
Allah blessed prophets with super natural miracles to prove their prophet hood. a)- Jesus: Curing
lepers and resurrecting dead. b)- Daud: Melodious voice. c)- Musa: Glowing hand and Stafe.-
````Each prophet predicted about next prophet verified previous prophet thus establishing „chain of
prophets‟ which terminates at Mohammad SAW. According to sayings of Mohammad SAW; Allah
has sent almost One hundred twenty four thousand prophets and messengers on earth since its
creation; twenty names have been mentioned in Quran like Hazrat Yusuf, Hazrat Yahya, Hazrat
2
Idrees, Hazrat Shoaib, Hazrat Ishaque, Hazrat Yaqoob, Hazrat Suleman, Hazrat Loot, Hazrat Uzair.,
Hazrat Yunas, Hazrat Zulqar –nain.
Muslims give respect to all the prophets and even follow their Sunnah (practices). Muslims
understand the „chain of prophets‟ which stresses the common teachings of revealed books. The
teachings FAITH of all prophets were common and all mankind should understand the connectivity
and continuity. This helps in establishing harmony in different revealed religions in today‟s world.
5-DAY OF JUDGMENT
This entails that this physical universe and its dwellers have to end one day through destruction by
the order of Allah. Afterwards Allah wil take account of actions carried out in this life.
There would be three stages for this:
a)- Qiyamah: Destruction caused by first blow of trumpet of Israfeel
b)- Resurrection: Rebirth for accountability caused by second blow of trumpet.
c)- Hereafter: The everlasting life in the form of Hell or Heaven.
All these phases have been summed up in the Surah al-Qariah.
The accountability of deeds enacted in this life will be weighed in a balance. Heaven will be
awarded for heavier weight of virtuous deeds and Hell for misdeeds. The life in hereafter will be
permanent without ageing or degeneration.
The features of HEAVEN will be: The time and atmosphere will be soothing and pleasure full;
almost cloudy. Every dweller of heaven will be in his/her youth. There will be huge castles of
precious stones besides rivers of milk and honey. Every imaginable fruit or pleasure will be served
within an instant. There will be armies of servants for service.
The features of HELL will be: The atmosphere will be torturing as it will be hot and ugly. The
punishment will not end as there will be no death. The food will be cactus, thorns and Puss
There will be different stages and punishments according to level of misdeeds. The pain and
feelings will be seventy times higher than normal. It will be horrifying even the punishers will be
ugly and horrifying.
The believers realize the importance of virtues in this life. Muslims understand that this life and
world is temporary. Muslims fear accountability and anger of Allah on Day of Judgment
Muslims try to do virtues as much as possible which ensures care and welfare of others. Muslims
aspire for heavens for which they bear hardships in this world. Muslims ask security of Allah on
Day of Judgment as it will be very horrible. Muslims observe Islamic code in order to have peaceful
death. Muslims observe rights of fellow beings as their virtues will be given to other for not
fulfilling rights of fellow beings. Muslims fear Hell and avoid misdeeds, reducing evil.
6-PREDESTINATION
It is the belief of muslims that good or bad luck exists by the will and authority of Allah. This is
desired to lay stress that only Allah only has ultimate control over every occurrence and outcome. It
has been mentioned in the Quran:
Indeed Allah has complete power to do anything.
This implies that whatever good or bad happens in our lives cannot be attributed solely
3
to any person, object or condition. Though humans have the capacity to make effort and work hard.
If it results in success it is with Allah‟s blessing; and if it‟s a failure with flawless effort then Allah
has something better in store. Whatever has to happen and has happened in the past is written down
in Loh-e-Mehfooz (preserved tablet) on seventh sky. Quran states , “…He knows Before, After &
Behind and humans cannot know His knowledge except what Allah permits ” (surah al-Baqra)
This denounces proud-ness and arrogance in a believer on any success or achievement: rather he
becomes humble and thankful to Allah blessing him with success. Similarly If a believer comes
across failure or hardship he does not become pessimist or hopeless as he takes that as a test and
trial. This is why Allah has strictly forbidden suicide which results from depression and
hopelessness. All muslims realize that they should be thankful to Allah for having the facilities of
life of this world and should not look down upon those who have some hardships. All muslims only
ask Allah for all possible help and assistance in the shape of Duas‟ (personal supplication) with the
firm belief that Allah can change anyone‟s destiny whenever Allah wishes.
