Tracer SC boot code update
A problem has been identified that can cause the Tracer SC to fail and display an F
code on the display. This problem has been fixed with an updated software
module. The application of this software module will allow a failed SC to be
recovered in the field as well as prevent future failures. The determination of
necessity and method of update can be found in the matrix below.
Methods to Update
 o SD Card
An SD Card can be used to update the boot code regardless of whether or
not the controller is currently in a failed "F-Code" mode.
Note that the SD Card updates only the specific boot module and will
leave intact any existing software code and programming.
Details on making the SD Card are available in the attached word
                 document and zip file.

o Software Release - Spring Release
The Spring Release of Tracer SC (Currently V2.5 SP1, Some discussion of a
change to V3.0) will contain the boot software as a part of the general
           software release.

  Application
The files to put on an SD cards are located on the Tracer SC page of the Files Downloads
page.

You will need to obtain at least a 2 gb SD card with no files.
Updating the SC Boot Code.doc 27 January 2011
We have identified a bug in the Tracer SC’s boot code that can cause it to hang during
startup, showing an “F code”.
This document describes a permanent fix by updating the SC’s boot code. We
recommend at this fix be applied to all SC’s.
If you watch the seven-segment display on an SC while it boots up, the original boot code
shows “8”, “7”, “6”, “5”, “4”, etc.
The new boot code will show “9” instead of “6”. "8", "7", "9", "5". You can use this to
tell whether or not an SC needs to be updated.
Making an SD Card
To make an SD card
1. Verify that your SD card contains no files. You may want to re-format the card.
Either FAT16 or FAT32 is OK.
2. Copy these three files to the SD card:
    u-boot.bin
      u-boot.s19
      u-boot.cmd
Updating an SC
To perform an update
1. If the SC is on, press the power button on the SC and wait for it to shut down.
2. Insert the SD card into the SC’s SD slot, on the lower edge of the SC to the left of the
modem connector. The angled corner of the card should be closest to the modem
connector. Push the card until you feel a click, and then let go. The card should
protrude about 1/8 of an inch (3 mm).
3. Press the power button on the SC.
4. The 7-segment display should show “8” for a few seconds, then “7”, then “9”. The
display should then flash “1”, and “2” as the upgrade is performed.
5. When the display shows “U-donE.”, press the power button on the SC and wait for it
to shut down. This will take about 30 seconds, during which the display will continue
   to cycle through “U-donE.”
6. Remove the SD card. To remove the card, push it until it clicks, and then let go. The
card should protrude about 1/4 of an inch (7 mm), and be loose enough to remove
   easily.
7. Press the power button on the SC.
8. The 7-segment display should show “8” for a few seconds, then “7”, “9”, “5”, “4”,
and the normal SC startup sequence.
The old boot code displayed 8”, “7”, “6”. The new code displays a “9” instead of “6”.
"8", "7", "9", "5". If your SC shows “6” during bootup, it DOES NOT have the corrected
boot code, and should be updated.
