Introduction
The Rainforest Scarf is a lacy accessory with a simple yet fancy Rainforest stitch pattern. It
pairs perfectly with the Clematis Crochet Beret.
The stitch pattern is created using short rows, slip-stitch variations, and standard crochet

Recommended Materials
1. Yarn: 150 – 250 m per 100 g. Approximately 250 - 450 g, depending on the length and
width.
Choose a rather volumetric yarn to reduce the scarf weight and thus the load on your neck.
Solid colors, hand-dyed yarns or tweeds. Variegated yarns will obscure the stitch pattern but
can add other exciting effects. Avoid very contrasted color-changing yarn; it will eat up the
stitch pattern's appearance. A z-twist yarn will give a different stitch definition; not all can be
recommended.
2. A main crochet hook size 4 mm – 6 mm, and a hook 1 mm smaller to finish.
3. A pointy needle for weaving in. The pointy needle makes weaving more reliable, as it
passes the yarn end through the fibers, making it less likely to get out during wear.
4. Stitch markers to facilitate foundation cord chain counting.

Gauge Swatch Instructions (Watch video)

Different crochet hook brands and your individual crochet style

will bring different outcomes.

Before starting your project, working on the gauge swatch to

establish the suitable crochet hook size and density and to study
pattern stitches is recommended but still optional.

Choose a hook size that gives even stitches and a good drape
suitable for the scarf.

Block your swatch and give it time to dry completely. Evaluate:

if it suits your scarf, follow the main instructions. It is better to
change the hook if it is too dense or very loose with unclear or
uneven stitches.

! Important Notes
1. Work the foundation cord with a relaxed tension. With some yarns, you might need
to increase the hook size.
2. All the stitches are back loop (BL) stitches unless another is specified.
3. The total stitch count in the current row and the remaining stitch count of the row
below are included at the end of all rows in written instructions: total – (6),
remaining – (10), or both (6, 10).
4. In each row after the turning chain, always turn the work clockwise unless another is
specified. We won`t repeat this instruction in each row.

Measure out the yarn end approximately 60 cm long.

Calculations

Scarf Length, st.

The main formula for the scarf length: stitch count is a multiple of 12 plus 3.
Simply work a foundation cord of the desired scarf length, ensuring your stitch count can be
evenly divided by 12, and add 3 more stitches at the end. Use stitch markers to help count.

Scarf Width

Decide on the width as you go, growing it by adding the Main Panel repeats. Edges will add
2 cm to the width.
You can stop your work after any Main Panel repeat is completed and switch to Finishing
instructions.

Use the tips below to help you determine the yarn needed at each stage of work and plan the
scarf's width according to your remaining yarn.
