Sang Kancil and the Crocodile

A very good morning to the honourable judges and teachers. Today, I am going to tell
you a story entitled Sang Kancil and the Crocodile. Once, in a dense forest in Malaysia, there
lived a little mouse deer named Sang Kancil. Sang Kancil may have been small, but he was
very clever.

One sunny day, Sang Kancil needed to cross a wide river to reach the other side of the
forest, where the juiciest fruits grew. But there was a big problem. A huge crocodile lived in
that river, and he loved to eat animals who dared to swim across!

Sang Kancil knew he had to be smart to outwit the crocodile. So, with a twinkle in his
eyes and a plan in his mind, he approached the riverbank.

“Hello, Mr Crocodile!” sang Sang Kancil cheerfully. The crocodile, who was basking
in the sun, opened his eyes lazily. “Well, well, well, if it isn’t Sang Kancil,” he said with a
toothy grin. “What brings you here?”

“ I need to cross the river, Mr Crocodile, to visit my family on the other side,”
explained Sang Kancil. “But I’m too small to swim across alone. Could you help me?”

The crocodile licked his lips, already imagining the tasty meal he would have if he
helped Sang Kancil. “ Of course, little one. Just hop on my back, and I’ll take you across.”

Sang Kancil nodded, but as he climbed onto the crocodile’s back, he whispered to
himself, “Time to put my plan into action.”

As they began to swim across the river, Sang Kancil looked around nervously. “Mr
Crocodile,” he said. “why is the water so deep today? It feels like it’s getting deeper!”

The crocodile chuckled, thinking Sang Kancil was falling for his trick. “Oh, don’t
worry, Sang Kancil,” he said. “That’s just how rivers are sometimes. Nothing to worry
about.”

But Sang Kancil was too clever to be fooled. Just as they reached the deepest part of
the river, he shouted,” “Now, Mr. Crocodile, it’s time for me to go!”

With a quick leap, Sang Kancil jumped off the crocodile’s back and onto the
riverbank, leaving the crocodile bewildered and splashing in the water.
“Thank you for the ride, Mr Crocodile!” called Sang Kancil, laughing as he
disappeared into the forest.

From that day on, the crocodile learned never to underestimate the intelligence of a
small mouse deer like Sang Kancil. And Sang Kancil? Well, he continued to use his quick
wits to outsmart any dangers that came his way, always staying one step ahead in the big,
wide forest.
