Example:
6 - 5 = 1 or 6 minuend
- 5 subtrahend
1 difference

Minuend the number that is subtracted from.

Subtrahend the number that is subtracted to.

Difference the answer that we get when we subtract.

3 Steps on how to do Subtraction

1. Know the place value of each digit.

2. Align the minuend and subtrahend.

3. Subtract first the ones place next tens, hundreds and thousands.

( The teacher will read a story entitled Elsa)

There is a young girl whose name is Elsa, she is kind and


industrious child. She is already in Grade 3 pupil in Villa
Verde Elementary School. She loves reading books rather
than playing around.
One day, early in the morning, after doing the house chores
she starts reading book that has 345 pages. After a week,
she finished reading the 123 pages.
How many pages of the book she needs to read to finish
the book?

What is being asked in the story?


How many pages of the book she needs to read to finish the book.

(The teacher will call someone to pick the fruit and find what number of
question the pupil will answer from the story Elsa.)
