Module Title: ON BECOMING A TEACHER
Description of the Module
This module will provide an in-depth understanding on the teacher as a person
and as a professional. This will also tackle on the personal and professional qualities of
becoming a glocal teacher through professional engagement. It contains 2 Episodes:
The Teacher as a Person and The Teacher as a Professional.
Purpose of the Module
The rationale of this module is for pre-service teachers to have a meaningful
reflection on the personal and professional qualities of an effective classroom teacher.
Key Terms
Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) – refers to the basis for all
learning and development programs for teachers to ensure that teachers are properly
equipped to effectively implement the K to 12 program. This can also be used for the
selection and promotion of teachers (D.O.42. s. 2017)
Professional- refers to an individual who has completed a higher education, usually at
the advance level, and engages in and is worthy of high standards of a profession
(Pawilen, 2019).

personal qualities of a teacher through a checklist.

personal qualities of a teacher indicated in the checklist on the next page. You
will visit a class and observe whether the teacher possesses such qualities. In
assessing yourselves, since this is a group activity, you may simply compile

Abstraction
What are some personal qualities of a Good Teacher?
1. Intelligence- ability to make sound decision, analyze , make judgement,
make solutions, possess higher order thinking skills, and other types of
intelligence.
2. Compassion-natural quality to empathize, to feel what others feel, to be
tolerant of others.
3. Emotional Stability- ability to calm under pressure, cheerful and optimistic,
level headed.
4. Innovativeness- natural tendency to create new things, modify existing ones
imaginative, finds solutions to problems quickly, and makes use of available
materials.
5. Fairness-natural attribute to look at both sides of the issue before making
judgement, gives equal chances for both sides to be heard, removes personal
biases.
6. Self-confidence- natural tendency to feel “I can do it”, works alone,
determined to succeed.
7. Cooperativeness- natural action to work together with others, willing to
share.
8. Buoyancy- ability to survive in difficult situation, balances life, optimistic and
cheerful.
9. Reliability- attribute demonstrated by dependability, sincerity and honesty.
Application
