ABSTRACT
In electronics prototyping and circuit design, identifying short circuits is crucial
to prevent component damage and system failure. This project presents a low-
cost and efficient short circuit tester designed using a blue LED, a buzzer, a
PCB test interface, and a 12V 1A power supply. The circuit works on a simple
principle when the probes of the tester are connected across two points in a
circuit or on a PCB, the presence of a short circuit completes the path, causing
the LED to light up and the buzzer to sound.
This dual-indicator system provides both visual and auditory feedback to the
user, ensuring immediate and reliable detection of shorts. A current-limiting
resistor is included to protect the LED from excess current. This tester is ideal
for quickly checking continuity and identifying faults in wiring, breadboards,
and printed circuit boards (PCBs).
Its simple design, low power consumption, and effectiveness make it a valuable
tool for students, hobbyists, and technicians alike.
