moment they are conceived
until they reach 2 years of
age.

This is a period of rapid growth

and development. It helps
maximize the child’s ability to
grow, learn, and develop.
PREGNANCY - 270 DAYS
Babies developing in the
womb draw all of their
nutrients from their
mother. If the mother lacks
key nutrients, so will be the
baby, putting the child’s
future health and
development at risk.

of birth, given exclusively for six months,
and continued up to 2 years or beyond.
COMPLEMENTARY FEEDING- 550 DAYS
Nutrients from a variety of healthy

Republic Act 11148: “Kalusugan ng Mag-Nanay Act of 2018”
“An act Scaling up the National and Local Health and Nutrition Programs through
a Strengthened Integrated Strategy for Maternal, Neonatal, Child Health and
Nutrition in the First 1,000 Days of Life, Approaching Funds Therefore and for
Other Purposes.”
This Act, provides that there will be:
- nutrition program and support to the mother, before, during and after
she gives birth
- nutrition program and support for the baby
- training for barangay health workers
- support and training for mothers on how to ensure her and her child's
health and nutrition
Fundamental in all these efforts is the adherence to the Nurturing Care
Framework (NCF), which provides a roadmap for action.

What is the Nurturing Care Framework (NCF) ?

It is a framework “for helping children survive and thrive to

transform health and human potential”.

Why nurturing care?

Nurturing care is needed so that children will survive, thrive,

and develop fully. While nurturing care is important
throughout life, it is most critical in early childhood or the
F1KD.
