Because of the massive spread of K-dramas and that were released in digital
platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, etc. And also because of the
increasing popularity of K-pop. Most Filipinos are now listening to Korean music
because of the changes in their musical tastes, because K-pop has this catchy and
mesmerizing melodies. This results of expressing themselves through fashion
inspired by their Korean idols. The Filipinos are also hooked to k-dramas because
they can relate to the story that are about family, love, friendship, etc. There are
Philippine adaptations that were dubbed in Tagalog so that the Filipinos can watch
more easily and locally. Another reason why the Korean Wave is so popular in the
Philippines is their food. Filipinos who can’t afford to travel to South Korea can now
experience the taste of Korean food through “samgyupsal”. It’s a restaurant where
the offer a variety of Korean food which Filipinos can taste and feel like they’re in
South Korea. Filipinos can also learn how to speak the Korean language or the
“hangugeo”. This is also the reason why Filipinos loved watching Korean films and
dramas, they want to understand the meaning of the subtitles that were shown on
the screen. South Korea is the popular choice for Filipinos who want to work
abroad, which is the result of Filipinos learning how to speak in Korean fluently. The
rise of Korean literature also had an impact among Filipinos because of the access to
libraries which Filipinos can learn more about the popular Korean authors, which
most of their works are translated so Filipinos can understand the culture in Korea.
Its literary tradition captivates the hearts of the Filipinos because of its rich
histories, and the impact to Filipinos. The contemporary arts between the Korea and
the Philippines had flourished through the years. Through workshops and seminars
led by universities and institutions, it had shown the recognition of the tradtional
Korean arts to the Philippines.
