he Delhi Assembly elections are conducted to elect the representatives of the people of

Delhi to its Legislative Assembly. Delhi is a National Capital Territory with a special status.
The elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) form the government of Delhi. The
Delhi Legislative Assembly has the power to make laws on various subjects, but some key
areas, like land and police, fall under the jurisdiction of the Union Government of India. The
elected government is responsible for the governance and development of Delhi, focusing
on issues like education, healthcare, infrastructure, and public services.

2. Election Procedure - Role of Election Commission

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is an autonomous constitutional authority


responsible for administering the election process in India, ensuring its fairness and
transparency. For the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections, Announcement of Elections: The
ECI announces the schedule for the elections, including important dates.​

●​ Electoral Roll Updates: The electoral rolls are updated to include new voters and
remove ineligible voters.​

●​ Filing of Nominations: Candidates from various political parties (and independent


candidates) file their nominations to contest the elections. The ECI scrutinizes these
nominations.​

●​ Campaigning: Political parties and candidates engage in election campaigns to


reach out to voters through rallies, public meetings, and media appearances.​

●​ Polling Day: Voters cast their votes at designated polling booths.​

●​ Counting of Votes: The votes are counted under the supervision of the ECI.​

●​ Declaration of Results: The ECI declares the results of the elections.

She is a three-time councillor and former mayor of the South Delhi Municipal
Corporation (SDMC). She was elected to the Delhi Councillor elections from Uttari
Pitampura (Ward 54) in 2007 and 2012. She was also pitted by the BJP as the MCD
mayoral candidate against AAP's Shelly Oberoi in 2022.

Gupta is the National Vice President of the BJP Mahila Morcha and had previously
served as the general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Delhi.

She won the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency in 2025 assembly elections with
a margin of 29,595 votes by defeating AAP's Bandana Kumari.
Gupta was also a member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and started her
political journey as a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
