Sig. M.D.U.
 M.wt. of stearic acid = 284.5
 M.wt of KOH = 56.11
Calculation of the required amount of
KOH:

Since 1 mole of stearic acid = 1 mole of KOH

So 284.5g stearic acid → 56.11 g KOH
15g → ?g
0.25(15) → ?g
X = 0.72 g
N.B. The required amount of KOH is only 25% of the
obtained value.

1- We use 25% of the calculated amount of KOH so as
to avoid froth formation.
2- The cream is non greasy.
3- When applied to the skin water evaporates and the
stearic acid precipitates on the skin which cause
considerable increase in the smoothness of the skin.
