CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Nowadays, choosing a senior high school strand is one of the most
challenging decisions that junior high school students will have to face. Decisions
require a defined choice between two or more alternatives course of action that are
available. It is important to choose a strand wisely, because the strand that they will
choose will serve as their training ground before they enter the college. “Making a
decisions implies that there are alternatives choices to be considered, and in such a
case we want not only to identify as many of these alternatives as possible but to
choose the one that best fits with our goals, objectives, desired, values, and so on”
(Harris, 1980) In fact, knowing one’s interest will land on the right career that are
right for them. For every student choosing the best strand can be a difficult decision
as well as thinking about their future career. Some students do know exactly the
strand that they want to pursue while others don’t. Choosing an appropriate career is
very important for every individual as it helps to determine their future ahead.
On the other hand, students undergo an intricate process, where they should
consider factors that would affect their overall decisions such as the social economic
status, parents, job opportunities, academic performance, personal interest, many
other aspects to forcefully in the not too distinct future.
Often-times, this leads to confusion, doubts, undecided that results in
unemployment that will cause a misfit the career that they’ve pursued. According to
Digos (2016), your guide to choosing your course is all about passion. Your passion
for your course and for your future career. Because the secret to happiness is being
able to love whatever it is you do in life.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study aimed to determine the JHS student’s preferred strand on senior
high school and their opinion about its implementation.
Specifically, the study wants to know the answered by the following questions:
1. What is the socioeconomic profile of the JHS students in terms of?
1.1 Age:
1.2 Sex:
1.3 Grade level:
2. Is there any factors affects the students in choosing their referred strand for senior
high school?
2.1 Family:
2.2 Peers:
2.3 Others:
What are these factors that have the most impact to their decisions?
What do these factors least affect their decisions?
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS
This study was only limited to JHS students in SIIS. This study mainly
focused on the factors such as Family, Peers, Others.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study will be beneficial to the learners. The learner must choose the
right strand for them to have a successful life. Learning is not about studying but it is
also enjoying the things that you’ve achieved. This study will be a big help to those
who are still undecided about the strand that they will choose.
With this study the students will recognize that at an early age they must
have a stable mind to determine what strand they are going to choose, so that they
won’t regret in their entire life.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
There are some factors that impact the students from high school seniors’
decision in what path they should take
A career choice is very important because it helps you in many ways. Career
growth is crucial for personal and professional development. According to (Felix Lee,
2023), Career growth is crucial for personal and professional development. It allows
individuals to continuously improve their skills, knowledge, and abilities to stay
competitive in the job market. Moreover, career growth provides financial stability by
opening up opportunities for higher-paying positions. Furthermore, it leads to
increased job satisfaction as individuals feel a sense of achievement and fulfillment
when they see progress in their careers. Overall, investing in career growth is
essential for long-term success and happiness in the workplace.
One decent decision that a person will do can make a huge impact in his or
her life. Decision-making happens in people, and some are for their future. This
career choice requires mature and severe discussion since their choice will decide.
(Albia set al., 2016), career selection is one of many important choice students will
make in determining future. Personality plays a crucial part in choosing the right
course. Students must take seriously the role grades play in limiting opportunities in
the future (Splaver, 2000). He also stated, “It is important for you to have a good
understanding of yourself, your personality, if you are to make intelligent upcoming
plans”. Bandura et al. (2002).
Opportunity can be a factor for students. Opportunity may influence how
students have perceived their future in terms of the reasonable probability of a future
in particular career fields. The issue of poverty has played an important determining
role in the opportunities available to all.
An academic resource is a factor that influences the predisposition and
search stages of the college choice process (Cabrera & Nasa, 2000). According to
some research, High School academic factors have an impact on the college choice
process of all students, with the greatest impact on minority and low SES students
(Rowe, 2002).
Socioeconomic status is a factor that influences the predisposition, search,
and choice stages of the college choice process (Cabrera & Nasa, 2000). Paulsen
(1990) noticed that when tuition expenses, room and board costs, and distance from
home increased; the college option became less attractive to students. However,
these effects are significantly bigger for students at lower income levels with lower
ability. At higher levels of student income and aptitude, these effects. Become less
important (Paulsen, 1990, p. 27). Hossler (2000), reviewing several meta-analyses
on the effects of financial aid on enrollment choice.
CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY
This chapter discussed the methods or procedures in the study. It simply
described the following of: research design, research setting, research procedure,
research instruments. The methodology is specifically selected to get reliable and
coherent output to get accurate and objective data of the determinants of senior high
school track and factors affecting
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study is more to find the factors affecting the students of choosing a
strand. This method often involves the use of surveys or questionnaires to collect
taps from participants.
Through a survey questionnaire, the researchers will answer the
determinants of senior high school track and its factor. Using the tool, it also
determines the analysis of participants satisfaction outcomes. This method often
involved the use of surveys of questionnaires to collect data from participants
RESEARCH SETTINGS
This research will be conducted in San Isidro Integrated School located in
Zone 6, San Isidro Alae, Manolo Fortich Bukidnon

GATHERING DATA
The researchers will ask permission to conduct a study for all students and
we researchers also provided a letter of confirmation from their advisers to inform
them that there will be a survey to happen. The researchers will select every JHS
student from each section to answer the survey questionnaires. The respondents will
be instructed properly upon answering.
The questionnaires will use face-to-face survey, so that the answers of each
respondent will easily calculate and gather at the same time.

RE: Permission to validate questionnaires
Dear Ma’am/ Sir,
We are researchers from Grade 10 Makabayan, are currently working on
quantitative research entitled “Exploring the determinants of senior-high school track:
factors affecting the preferences among the junior high school in San Isidro
Integrated School” The main objective of the said research is to identify the factors
and determinants of it.
Regarding this, may we request your valuable time and expertise in the field
for the validation of the content of our questionnaires. The reason for this request is
to check whether the questionnaires is accurate and parallel to the main problem
and objective of our research.
Respectfully,
SHEREE AMIRA T. BORONGAN

RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS
The researchers will use scaling questionnaires, and it’s referred to as
ranking question the searchers are presented an option for respondent to rank the
available answer. To the question on the scale of given range which is (A)
Represented “Strongly Agree”, (B)” Agree”, (C)” Disagree”, (D)” Strongly Disagree”,
and (E)” Undecided” This way on answering questions for gathering will be easier to
collect.
